2004 schedule posted

Postby Charleston Pony » Tue Dec 09, 2003 6:43 pm

the 2004 schedule is posted on smumustangs.com and besides the usual tough September start, the thing that jumps out at you is the ugliness of that home schedule. Better hope for a sellout against TTech and that La Tech and Tulsa have enough interest in their teams to bring some fans. Better start planning now if we are going to average 15k next year. Discounts should be plentiful for all but TTech.

I imagine we'll have to win one of those first 3 just to even spark enough interest to get the necessary 15K for the rest of the season. If we can get some momentum going, then the fans will show, but as long as we continue to be bad in September, this could be another rough season for attendance.

Another reason to like the geographic compactness of the proposed western division of CUSA. Hopefully, more fans from regional CUSA schools will visit Ford Stadium than previously came from WAC schools.

At the very least SMU's travel expenses should be lower.

If we draw 25K for Tech (something we should do), we can average around 12.5k for the rest of the season and not worry in 2004. My guess is that with some marketing (Methodist youth, band day, Pop Warner) that we will get the numbers we are looking for next season.

I'm not sure why we are dropping back to an 11 game schedule in this era of the 12 game regular season. Anybody have any insight here?

That one is easy, Diehard. Every team is dropping back to 11 games. It has to do with the amount of Saturdays on the calendar. It was twelve for two years, now back to eleven.
