TCU is favored by 17. Might go up from there based on past two years games?

It's hard to keep up with football from halfway around the world. But from what I've been reading, I'd guess that the spread might get smaller because TCU appears to have tailed off in recent years, rather than going up because of past success. Point spreads are set based on the current teams, not the success of past teams.

This is the one we have to win. A loss here and then trip to Stillwater and then Hawaii and we could easily be 0 and 5. I think beating TCU is a bigger challenge than Tech. Sure it would have been nice to beat the Lubbock folk, since so many live in Dallas, but a win over TCU (in my opinion a better team than Tech) is exactly what we need. It would definitely erase the outcome of the previous two games for everyone (most importantly, the team).

Just playing Devil's Advocate here, but consider:

If SMU loses to Tech, Oklahoma State and Hawaii, but then learns from its tough schedule and runs the table, we still win the WAC and go to a bowl game.

We need to be in Fort Worth and Stillwater and be louder than the home fans. I won't make the TCU game, but I'm coming to Oklahoma for the OSU game.

Based on that MIT dude's system, TCU is favored by 26 points. I don't put a lot of faith in that line, though. Each 1-A's score was posted in the Monday's DMN. 1-AA was in there, too.
