funny several of the incidents described in that piece would have been NCAA violations today.

I don't see how that is a downer. It is a fact. And it was in the '30s when there were no rules. The only hting that bugs me is reading pro athletes talk about memories from college that were clear violations of NCAA rules and nobody cares.
