ProudPonyPa is exactly right - having Hodges as our only backup is a little frightening. I'm sure he has talent, and he might one day be a good college QB, but at the moment, he just isn't ready.

Yes, I'm from Grapevine, so I do find myself rooting for Bartel. But if Wallis is under center, or Hodges or the ninth-string walk-on, I root for him, too. My allegiance lies first and foremost with SMU, not with a specific player.

Whatever the details are is largely unimportant. If he was indeed out after curfew, then Bennett made the right decision. We can't have a Randy Moss/Vikings scenario here where a player -- any player -- is bigger than the team and above rules. If a team rule was broken, some form of punishmen was due. Let's put this all behind us, stop pointing fingers at one another, and throw all of our energy into supporting the Ponies.

Haven't heard from you for some time. Glad to see your back. I need to get in touch with you somehow. Maybe through the defensive version of Texastang.
Anyways, what is coming in from the islands?

I don't want to start any rumors about what happened. I'm sure I'll find out here pretty quick. Shaqfu, I'm clueless as to who is behind the handel, but please try and get in touch.

Best source of info is Richard Bartel. Maybe it is none of your business. Is it absolutely necessary that you know everything?

It's not necessary, but I'm sure everyone is a little curious. No one is bashing him, and starting rumors. Didn't mean to hit a nerve.

If the best source of info is Richard Bartel then why do I get called a liar for telling you all what he told me? He called me Wedneday at about 1:30 and told me what happened. He would not lie to me. What I reported on here is what he told me. But you all believe whatever you want, as for me, I'll go with Richard.

Everyone relax. Sounds like we're in elementary school here. Who really cares who said what to who - the fact is he's not playing. Who is actually the closest inside scoop source or Bartel's best friend or Peruna's favorite handler or .... is MEANINGLESS. Get over it, and stop whining about it. If someone doesn't believe you, take comfort in the fact that you know something they don't. But you sound like you're going to jump off a tall building if we don't believe what someone may or may not have said.

This is not to suggest that you stop posting - please do. But isn't the point of this board to support the Ponies?

Most IMPORTANTly, does this make Jamey Harper our #3 quarterback for this week?

"021151 1:29 AM: The McElvaney Hall security officer reported a student was observed on the fourth floor ripping down a banner that had been placed on the wall by the Hall Director. The student said wording on the banner offended him. The banner advertised a seminar presented by RLSH. He will be referred to the Judicial Officer. Closed."

That is the quote from the SMU police website.

What's worse is that his mom made the trip a day early, and got a phone call from her son saying he couldn't make the trip. That stinks.

I saw that in the paper, as well. Thought it was probably Bartel becuase of time it occurred, and when KP said Bartel called him.

Resident Life and Student Housing

Whether it what just a regular student or Bartel or the tooth fairy, it was a stupid thing to do. Why would you just arbitrarily tear something down? The wording "offended" them? It's not like it was a flyer from the Aryan Nation college group or something. I can't imagine what the Residence Life staff would put up that would be so offensive as to warrant it being torn down at 2am in the morning. If you simply must get in trouble, at least be caught doing something fun.

Apparently the banner had things to the effect of "are you being called #@%#@ or &%&#$, then come to this seminar... and see what you can do about it".

The language in the banner was uncensured. Bartel may have been in a bad mood and just got tired of seeing that language in his hall.

There are better ways to present a seminar than that, and regardless that wasnt the reason for his getting in trouble. They said he was an unescorted trespasser in the dorm because he does not live there. The whole thing is totally gay, and blown out of proportion.

PPP-

Somewhat understandable, I guess. At least it provides some explanation and therefore some closure to the subject, I hope. Bartel doesn't win us that game Saturday or last week. A young Peyton Manning probably would not have won them either. We have multiple issues...

However, it's still a stupid thing to do. Offensive language?? If the individual who tore that sign down was a football player and the language allegedly on that banner was so offensive that it provoked a physical reaction, then said player must curl up into a fetal ball during practice, since I can assure you the language on the field is far from expletive-free. Personally, I'm not a big fan of that type of "shock-advertising." I think it insults the intelligence of it's intended audience, most of the time. I'm just saying it was foolish to tear it down.

"That type of language in the hall..."

C'mon PPP. The average student will hear all that and more dozens of time a day, everyday for the rest of their college years. I wish I could say it stops after you graduate...
