Anyone Excited About the Football Season?

When basketball season ends I'll start thinking about football... im too caught up in the moment right now. I'm sure some part of me will get excited for football season... doesn't mean I will have many hopes or expectations.

Get over the technicality of who is "paying" June Jones.....actually the school is paying him but they are being reimbursed by the CoC. At the end of the day, it's hard to say that he is delivering what he should be regardless of who is "paying" his salary. Now Larry Brown on the other hand..............

No, I won't get over it. June Jones is privately funded, regardless of how the money is routed. The circle of champions could've bought themselves a nice cedar deck in the backyard with a hot tub or they could buy a head football coach. It's their money, which they spend as they see fit.

As an alum, it is part of one's DNA. Each disappointment is painful; however, the players need and deserve our support. Despite my ambivalence toward JJ, which is frustrating to me since he has not demonstrated genuine enthusiasm to non-players, e.g. student body, alumni, fans and friends of SMU.

LB has done more in this area. He not only adopted the university, you sense his total commitment to his players, the school and our new BB tradition and that it is genuine. I hope he rides into the sunset as a Mustang, who gave and received so much since he accepted our HC position. This Hall of Fame Coach is taking SMU and the nation to school on the importance of dedication to excellence, whether in practice, games or life. Can't ask for more than that.

Despite the difference in height, I compare LB to A.R. "Red" Barr our legendary Swimming & Diving Coach, who build a national and regional power. There is even a slight physical resemblance.

So, count me excited to be a Mustang, even in the Fall.

Just make a bowl game and I'd call this season a success.

Edit: My expectations are lower than ever. I expect absolutely nothing from June, so each win will be a blessing.

But, I have purchased my season tix and ready for fall.

Looking forward to fall, and Mustang football. I have enjoyed and been wowed by LB and the job, enthusiasm, and energy he has put into SMU basketball. I think he has helped focus attention that Jones has brought the program far, but stalled when he has had far more resources and compensation.

Just a side note…about Coach Brown's "commitment" to SMU…it is great for now, but the track history means we should check what time it is…10:54 am on a beautiful Wednesday morning…and he is still our coach.

Definitely excited about football season, I mean it's going to suck but we'll be that much closer to getting a new HC and that much closer to basketball season.
