Kiffen Negotiations with UH Hitting a Buyout Snag

Heard from my sources in Tuscaloosa yesterday, that Lane IS going to Houston. He will stay and do both jobs (just like Smart did last year when he went to Georgia) until the season is completed at Bama. The American just got tougher.

Al.com and USA Today both reporting it now.

I like this, Kiffin is like Herman on steroids. He'll be hunting for his next job as soon as the press conference is over.

Hasn't he failed everywhere he has ever been a HC?

35–21 (college)
5–15 (NFL)

fired from NFL and college jobs, left TU in a disgraceful manner, and really hasn't done anything except join Alabama's staff. I ain't afraid of no Kiffin.

2 out of 3 count as failures (Oakland Raiders, USC), the other he left after one 7-6 season (Tennessee).

While he wasn't particularly successful at USC, I wouldn't say he failed there. He took over a USC program that was ineligible for the post-season and had lost many scholarships and never had a losing record. Lack of depth caught up to him later on in his tenure and he was scapegoated.

At USC, he failed so miserably that the athletic director pulled him off the team bus and wouldn't let him ride back with the team.

At Oakland, Al Davis fired him "For Cause" and WON . As a result, the Raiders saved over $2MM.

Yeah, he failed at USC but he's had a few years under the master and clearly he can coach an offense.

Good hire by Houston.

Getting fired like that is not proof of his tenure being a spectacular failure, it is evidence of Pat Haden being an extremely classless AD.

every Coach fails when there are double digit scholarship reductions. OU, SMU, Auburn, Penn St, USC are just some of the examples-scholarship reductions are going to kick you in the [deleted] for a few years. I agree the USC job is not a full demonstrations of the kind of Coach he could be

Everything is set up there for him to win right away, that's a pretty tough job to screw up.

My view is that is a good bet, and I think he personal style (somewhat out of the box cowboy) fits pretty well with Houston.

It also should stop any offensive players from transferring out

He seems to be a championship-caliber coach as long as he has championship-caliber talent...this will be interesting.
