ALEX LIFESON wrote:Unless SMU has some super secret marketing plan, which we all doubt, I predict less than 10,000 actual fans in the stadium. Based on Recent history, could be like 7,000. Attention SMU administration… if you do have invited guest to Ford Stadium, for heaven sakes, put them in the lower east bowl. It doesn't do any good, to have these invited groups in the upper sections, where they are isolated and undetectable by the TV cameras.
Amen.

Close off upper decks and endzone? Close off everything but the eastside lower bowl, from goal line to goal line?
So SMU is depending on Highland Park High School for attendance? That would be ridiculous if true.
Which game has high attendance - SMU vs Memphis or Highland Park vs Independence? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I would just hope that SMU doesn’t have to rely on one high school’s fans for attendance.

Checking the DMN listing for bi-district football games - 95% are scheduled Friday night. That's 4 teams per district area wide. Students certainly won't go. I say 5,000 max. This is a game where a great home crowd could be the difference in the outcome. Pony up, anyway.

Hopefully he's smarter than that with regards to our fans.
2011 was June's fourth season and that team started 5-1, June's frustration had been building for awhile. Sonny isn't anywhere near that point, if things keep trending up he might not have a fourth season here.
And four seasons in June was still wearing friggin leis on the sideline and trying to change the mascot. He had no credibility to complain about loyalty. Guy had one good win.

Not up on my SMU history. What's the mascot story?

First he tried to get rid of Peruna, saying a little horse indicated weakness. Then he did bring in 2 full size horses with riders dressed in western gear kind of yahoo cowboy like. I think the horses were named Liberty and Justice but went by Glue Stick, and something similar. I am sure there were people who loved it but it was an embarrassment to me. I never thought of SMU as a rootin’ tootin’ shootem up cowboy school. But at least June got to rub elbows (or something else) with T Boone Pickens’ wife by adopting horses from her save a horse campaign.

This could be bad. I see visions of last year's bowl eligibility clenching game against Tulsa on a Friday night. 6,000 actual people in Ford.

The Highland Park community is very supportive of SMU... so having them not show up will be a huge hit on our already problematic attendance.
They need to get Dykes a bunch of media spots this week and do some sort of super discount promotion to try to get more than 10K there.

If one of them is an athlete we are on probation again.

That's why the hs band kids are a shoe-in. They are not athletes and bring instant noise with their triangles and ukeleles.
