At this point, it feels to me that 2025 would be our first year in the PAC if invited. That would give the PAC an extra 12 months to decide whether to operate as a 10 team league or expand, using 2024 to see the effect on revenue. The only glitch in that, the PAC would have to get a 1 year extension on their current media contract.

Decide whether to operate as a 10 team league or expand? Their media deal will be based on predictive modeling of the value of the league with different team configurations. They're not going to wait another year to decided 10 or not.

Yea it is kinda ridiculous. June 30 (MWC deadline) and July 21 (PAC12 media day) will be the interesting dates to me. Otherwise, who knows...people trying to get clicks every day.

Stanford beat reporter reports that Canzano says he was told PAC 12 will need SDSU and Ponies to get a better deal that Big 12. (May have said it in his recent column that is behind a paywall.) Makes sense. Dallas will be the biggest market in the conference, bigger than SF or Seattle.

Also from Canzano's (via Twitter):

On SMU front… the American Athletic Conference bylaws call for a $10 million payment and “27 months notice” for a school to withdraw from the conference.

I’m told SMU has NOT announced intentions to leave as of today.

The Pac-12 seriously explored four schools for possible expansion. San Diego State and SMU emerged as a strong 1-2 punch.

Said one member of the Pac-12 CEO Group: “I think fair to say there was a gap to No. 3 and No. 4.”

To be fair, as Joe Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News points out: "... the AAC has proven it’s willing to negotiate. Cincy, UCF and Houston all paid an increased fee to exit before 27 months."

Buy, I really hope we can come up with the money for this. (Sarcasm font)

It's looking more and more like the 2025 season would be the earliest we would play in the PAC, assuming we got an invitation. In my opinion, a 1 year extension to the current PAC media rights contract would be acceptable to all parties.

Not the way things work. We'll be in in 2024 or not at all.
