Very excited. Will probably talk myself into this team making a bowl and being an AAC contender (against my better judgment) by August.

I know we all have less than stellar expectations for this season, but I'll be excited especially for the sold-out A&M and TCU games at Ford and Boulevarding six times this season regardless of the outcomes on the field

Absolutely … love college football. Putting W’s & L’s to the side (yes, I know it’s ultimately about the W’s). But, our home record overall is decent. Our home conference record is really good the last few years, and for the most part, the home games are exciting … in a still in it to the end kind of way. IMO

With home games against A&M, TCU, and Houston we should have 3 games that will average 30K. That should help offset the disastrous attendance figures of below 7K when we host Memphis, Cincy, and USF after we start the season 0-5.
Back off Warchild seriously.

A&M and TCU should sell out but the Houston game is the home finale (day after Thanksgiving) and we always draw poorly for those. The team is likely to be bowl ineligible at that point so the announced attendance is going to be around 15K with 7-8K butts in seats which won't be any more than the other conference home games will draw.

You are the man, ponyte. Those who throw their team under the bus and predict losing suck as fans and as human beings.

So you'd prefer I [deleted] out sunshine and rainbows instead of giving my honest opinion that this will not be a good team?

You are the WORST kind of fan and the reason that this administration is fine with mediocrity. No accountability so long as we can all sing kumbaya and roast a pig over some Hawaiian punch. A battered wife at her finest.

I did and afterward I admitted I was "sooooooooooooooo wrong" . Most resilience they've shown away from moody all year. Also not sure how saying I thought they were done is throwing them under the bus, but ok.

Has nothing to do with the football team being devoid of talent with a coach that doesn't care and you ignoring it. But way to deflect.

ponyte is a great poster on Ponyfans. I find his knowledge of college FB to be quite good, as I believe he actually played the game. As for labeling him the 'worst' kind of fan, you might look in the mirror. Your rant weakens your point. If he/we were to disagree with you that makes him/us 'sunshiners'? That is not only a leap, but inaccurate. I am not a big fan of JJ, as I wish he would engage the entire SMU community enthusiastically and, importantly, recruit like crazy.

Having said that, I am looking forward to the season. I assume you are an alum and for me that means I will always support the team and its players. The SMU Mustangs are my team ... always. It is not an option for me and if we were to collectively withdraw support, the consequences would be worst both short and long term.

We're allowed to be pessimistic about our team's current situation and still be excited for the season, right?

I'm not expecting any kind of breakout season, but I remember having a blast when our record was 1-11 so I don't anticipate the fun will stop now. Part of what I love about cheering for my alma mater is that I really don't care how good we are; I just want to support the team. If that makes me a [deleted] fan so be it, but I don't think so. I'd love if we were more competitive and if there's anything I can do to make that happen I will, but in the meantime I'm just gonna grab a beer (or nine) and then stand in front of my seat and yell.

Trust me- there will be dedicated PonyFans posters actively rooting against the football team next year. Sad but true
