Amazing that hatred of one guy can turn people against their alma mater. But I agree.

We can all agree to disagree, still support our team and enjoy SMU success. And the beauty is our joys, level of support and fulfillment can all be different and still meaningful.

I look forward to football. I love SMU football. I loved it before the mrydel glory days, during the Pony Express and even when we were little more than a glorified HS team the first year back from the DP. I loved it through 4 unsuccessful coaches before Jones.

Is Jones a great coach? Obviously a vigorous debate for some time to come. But regardless of the opinions of the coach, I still love SMU football.

So yes, I am a sunshiner (never denied it). And yes to many I am not part of the problem, I am the problem because I support SMU football even though we haven’t returned to Pony Express, Doak Walker National Championship form. Those were the very brief moments of glory; the vast majority of my support has been devoted to SMU teams that had one winning season over a generation and often middle of the road seasons prior to that.

Yet, I still support the football team and look forward to every season.

And just to spite those that think I am part of the problem because I am a sunshiner and all the team's woes are due to fans like me, I am gonna donate an extra hunk of cash to the MC. So there!

I just love it when you're spiteful…sending you the last remaining MustangMania sticker for being all sun-shiny when the world of Ponyfans is already doom and gloom. Thanks to you and others that support SMU football in its current form, and remembering as you said the "brief moments" of great success. Looking forward to some more of those too.

I'd love to be wrong about next season and that in year seven of the June Jones miracle we can finally get over the 7 win hump and take this program to the next level. What are the odds of that happening? What does the evidence tell us? We know that June (and the vast majority of his staff) will simply "do what we do". Well we have had six years of that and the results speak for themselves. There are really only two factions of SMU fans:

1 - Content with the status quo and happy to be treading water at 6-6. Hey its better than 3-9! Lets get the marble bust of the Tiki Torch June ready for the start of the season!

2 - Frustrated with Jones' de-emphasizing recruiting (as confirmed by multiple local area coaches) and generally mediocre product on the field. Tired of Jones' whining about fan support when he's hauled off well over $10M from the school with exactly zero conference titles or weeks spent in the Top 25. Expect and deserve a better and more energetic leader of the program.

This is the year that June's recruiting ambivalence all comes crashing down. We'll be looking for a new Coach at the end of the season-thank god. If you can't see the difference between the SMU Football staff and the SMU basketball staff concerning the essential importance of recruiting then you never will get it. Stair Steppin' Down.

Now everybody is so happy and cheering for basketball like it's a sacred cow...that is until we have a bad season in basketball and we go back to square 1 with zero fans. Real fans support our sports no matter what. Football is no exception. Our teams have been improving every year since June got here. But then again, so has every other team in Texas. IF you compare the state of SMU football to a Baylor or Texas A&M program, then yes, we are horrible...then again, so is every other team in the country that will get blown out by them this next year...but you will never hear anyone say "Wow that LSU team really sucks! They got blown out by Texas A&M real bad this year!"

This is the biggest difference I notice among the truly great programs and those such as SMU....kind of a state of Texas problem too. The great programs have fans who support their teams and show up for the games because they realize the game itself is just part of the equation and that win or lose you support your team. That doesn't mean you don't complain if things aren't going well but you support the team and your university. By not going to the games you become the problem, not the coach or AD. Recruits don't want to play in empty stadiums. How does it look on national tv for the cameras to pan around an empty stadium. Look at the Big Ten or SEC...full stadiums and half the teams are losers.

You haven't had a correct ding, ding, ding answer about SMU football in your entire life. Historically, the most delusional, ridiculous cheerleader in the History of Ponyfans

SMU is a top academic school, in the hottest growth city in the US, with a bball program on FIRE, a football program that has climbed above the Mendoza Line, and yet so many still continue to focus on the negative because we have to deal one more year with an NFL coach who doesn't like to recruit?

There's just not enough beer in the World sometimes...
