Just to give you an idea of the style and tempo of Cal Offense under Dykes, SMU in 2017 and TCU 2017 where Dykes worked in 2017. These are play ratios not percentage ratio

Cal in 2016--52/35 Pass/Run Ratio
TCU in 2017-30-39 Pass/Run Ratio
SMU in 2017 -38/37 Pass/Run Ratio

I'm hoping he modifies offense based on TCU experience. I heard him quoted in Cal video that he likes to fit his system to the personnel-actually kind of rare at College level

What were his numbers at La Tech?

Either way, Sonny Dykes will cause a rift. Players want Traylor and the alumni wants anyone else but Dykes. Also his record and amount of bowls just seem shocking that he would be our #1 candidate. 41-45 and 2 bowls... seriously...

There is a reason Cal wanted him.

But it pulled him away from his recruiting base.

Not a bid hire IMHO if it happens...

That said, the school has knocked it out of the park on its last several hires - June, Morris, LB, Jank, Golf, Soccer, Mays... kind of trust them to do this well. Lack of leaks is a good sign.

Well June was good initially, he should have been fired after the ASU debacle or at least the year after. We all saw the sinking ship so either he was too expensive to fire (which is bad planning) or too inept to see it.

I’m nervous we are going to make a really bad hire with Dykes. Traylor is slight gamble but if you can get him cheap and on a short contract, we can see what the next wave of coaches look like..

Good thing is Morris did not leave the program in shambles like June did. Dykes, Traylor or whoever will have something to work with.

Right but it only takes a bad hire to burn the base to the ground. Chad only had one direction to go and that was up. This is a pivotal point to see: can we be the top of the AAC. Traylor sound like would be a hold and Dykes sounds more likely than not a down.

Pay Traylor nothing and buy a year. Longer term solution is not available right now so forget it. Be extremely proactive next year.

They do anything else I'm gonna be livid at Chad and the AD dept. We got left out hanging by Chad, who had the good fortune of dominos falling perfectly and landing in the SEC West where he has no business being yet. Just cut the losses and think long term. Very questionable if Hart et al are capable of that critical thinking though

That would be the absolute worst thing to do. You advocate hiring a no-name coach and killing recruiting 2 years in a row? We would be worse off than we were when Chad Morris got here.

Hart should be fired if it really is Sonny Dykes

count me as surprised that he's actually younger than Chad. West Texas rougher than east Texas?

So we should just do what the players want?

Before Sonny went to Cal I do remember a lot of people here wanting him. I will say he seems like a horrible cultural match for Cal and might be better suited here. But I’d rather take Sumlin, Graham, Orlando, or Littrell.
