SMU going into a P5 is the only thing that will rekindle the rivalry.

They probably could make the phone call but then you get into the state politics. There is the rub. If you are just talking UT sure, but then you got TTech as a potential tagalong. That muddies the water just a bit.

[deleted], Texas Tech ain't stopping Texas from doing anything. Hell Texas, UT and Tech couldn't stop A&M from going to SEC.

ut doesn't want to join the sec. they can't even win the big 12.
they did want to go to the pac 12 but wouldn't give up the shorthorn network.

Maybe so. I just know that when politics is involved, anything is possible. Politics turns things that start out making sense in the begining into something resembeling dog-poop in the end.

No, not dead. The SMU rivalry has slid down the list, but I'd say its easily our 3rd biggest after Baylor & Tech. I hope we play every year in all sports and wish June waited until after this week to quit.

Only way it goes back to number 1 is if we turn it around and get back to the upper echelon. Doesn't have to be the same conference.

Haven't met any alums of Baylor or Tech who think of TCU as a "rival".

TCU is probably our #1 right now. We have more hate for A&M, but we don't play them in football, so...

Plus GCP has had CAB's number and there have been a few good games recently.

Of the teams we play every year (or most years) I'd say:

1.) TCU- Naturally fits
2.) Texas- One way rivalry, but we've won 3 of the last 4
3.) Tech- Some hate here, but distance keeps it down
4.) oSu- We can't win in Stillwater and we recruit a bunch of the same kids
5.) OU- We've only beaten them twice, but it was the last 2 times they have come to Waco
6.) ISU- Fans just don't get along at all, but only a messageboard rivalry
7.) KSU- Some good games here and the EMAW guys are hilarious
8.) SMU- Historical and geographical, but not much else
9.) Rice- See SMU
10.) KU- A very minor basketball rivalry and we only beat them in the B12 tourney. Football games are very uninspiring
11.) WVU- too new

I think SMU can rise to as high as #3 for us once they get a new coach in and get going. I hope we keep the series going for a long time (that goes for Rice too).

I would love to schedule Baylor in basketball every season. That would be fun, and very competitive.

At the moment all we have going for us is our history and the all-time series with Baylor is almost even - 36-37-1, just sayin.

Yes the TCU a rivalry is dead.

Look at how few TCU fans showed up for the game. Strong indicator that they could careless about seeing their team throttle SMU.

Yeah, it's dead. I think TCU will no longer schedule us when the current deal runs out.
