Does anybody remember the Glory Days of the Pony Express?

Postby mustangkip » Wed Aug 03, 2005 5:19 pm

I sure do miss the glory days of the pony express. Eric Dickerson and Craig James were both in my class.

YES, YES, YES.

I graduated in 83. During my time ( Juco transfer ) SMU NEVER lost a game.

Cool. Tied one against Ark.
Chicken [deleted] coach, if you want my opinion.

Do the glory days of the pony express really matter? We had one of the most corrupt programs in the country - if not the most corrupt!!! SMU fans and alumni have certainly paid the price for the few glorious years of the pony express!

The issue is that there must be some way to field a competitive football team while playing by the rules.

Everyone else was cheating at the time too. They weren't as blatent as you guys were but just as guilty. You think tu wasn't buying players then and isn't buying players today? I think the only SWC team that didn't get busted was Arkansas.

That's only because the investigators did not want to have to spend a lot of time in Fayettville.

I think the keywords here are "ONE OF THE MOST CORRUPT". What
happened to the other guys? Slaps on the wrists. Can you spell
SCAPEGOAT?? It has gotten worse NOT better. See Rafeal Palmeiro as
just a very small example.

Yep, we have paid the price, and it may well have been worth it!! At
least us old farts got to see us as #2 in the land. Really we won the
national championship in 82.

It was worth it because the BCS was coming along in the future, and it is
a MEGA BIGGER CHEATING SCHEME than anybody associated with SMU
was ever a part of. It eliminates anybody in an NCAA Div. IA bottom half
conference from EFFECTIVELY competing for the MYTHICAL national
championship.

Lots of MONEY involved. Very hard to recruit national top 100, or even
any state 100 star splayers to non BCS schools. Can you spell
MONOPOLY?

You are so right. I was there 79 to 83 and we had the best football in the entire country. I loved it.

SMU needs to find a legal way to field a competitive football team.
