people worry way to much about DL size in the 3-4. if they are strong and can get penetration they will be fine. A&M won the Big 12 based on its defense in '98 and our Dl was 275 at one DE, 270 at NG, and 240 at the other DE. All three of those guys are still in the NFL.

Suposedly one of the reason Bennett was fired from A&M is b/c he was trying to change our 3-4 into more of a 4-3 scheme. He used the 4-3 at KSU.

Well, go to the scrimmage (Sat.) & see how the Coaches mix the 3-4 into the schemes.

meanwhile, wouldn't it be refreshing to see a coaching staff actually design a scheme to best utilize our personnel? Let's face it, SMU has had problems finding DTs but we have plenty of guys who might be capable DEs that we are trying to convert to tackles and plenty of LBs that are trying to become DEs. Bennett has talke about playing a more aggressive defensive style. Why not? As for the pash rush in a 3-4, the beauty is you don't know how many are coming or where they are coming from.

In the theme of recruiting for speed, more and more schools are recruiting big corners who can bump up to safety, big safeties who can bump up to linebacker, and big linebackers who can bump up to DE. Our coaches are not unique in their efforts to find these guys. The key to any such move, of course, is that the players have to be able to maintain their speed. Some can, some can't.

the problem with an aggressive blitzing defense is you have to bable to get to the QB; we never get any pressure from our blitzing LB's leading to our secondary getting burned b/c they are not real good at on one on one coverage, that has to improve or you are better off playing a bend but don't break defense which Schumann did very well

the ket idsn't maintaining speed when spinning down players, it is getting them strong enough to take on bigger blockers
