Bennett on The Ticket

Thanks for posting that DMN article about Coach Bennett doing a weekly show on the Ticket. It's about time! Coach Cavan (and Coach Rossley and Coach Gregg before him) had a weekly TV show, but it was buried on some obscure cable station and showed only in the middle of the day on a weekday - not exactly a prime vehicle for exposure. Coach Bennett has the right idea. He hooked up with Norm Hitzges, who might well be the most famous name in Dallas radio sports talk (with the possible exception of Randy Galloway). Norm might be a little goofy (or a lot goofy, depending on your point of view, I guess), but people listen to him. Lots of people listen to him.

This sure beats the prospects of having Coach Bennett talking to the comedians in the morning or the afternoon idiots on that station. They'd kiss up to him while he was on the air, and then make jokes as soon as he hangs up. Norm, unlike other hosts on the Ticket, knows sports. He also has the reputation and the respect that people will listen to what he has to say.

Getting a weekly spot on his show -- especially a visit of that length -- is an absolutel coup. This falls in with the marketing push, the billboards, his ability to get high school coaches to come to campus for his clinic in the spring, getting tons of players to his summer camps. It's looking more and more like he's not only a great father, a gifted coach and a terrific recruiter - he's also a top-tier salesman for the program and the university.

Thanks again to Jim Copeland and President Turner for hiring this guy. Can't wait for the season.
