Ford Turf

Postby Mickey » Sun May 04, 2003 8:52 pm

Camps start in less than 4 weeks. If they are going to install new turf in Ford, they had better get started. Anyone have an update on this topic?

I think thats a sign that no one knows anything, perhaps indicating that there isnt anything to know. CPC is getting the feeling that all the plans to install turf may be on hold. No idead why, though. Since the athletic department never made any official announcement about when it would be installed, its kind of hard to tell.

I believe I heard somebody said that they were not going to dig up the game field until after the camps. You can tell they were anticipating delays with the installation of the turf because our first homegame is a late sept 20. Last year Utep had major problems when they put the new turf in, they had to really rush to have it ready for the first game. They even had talks about playin their first home game at NMSU. But luckily the turf was finished by the first game. Hopefully, with our late game opener, the turf will be finished. Good looking out by SMU!

I sure hope dirty30samoa has some false information. For those who watched the College Cup last year at Ford Stadium, you saw how bad it looks if turf is thrown down quickly, and that was just the sod on top. Re-doing the entire playing surface will require some serious settling time, whether it's grass or the fake stuff. If they're going to rip out the turf and put something else in there, it needs to be done as quickly as possible.

It is the fake stuff. We are changing our playing surface to the latest field turf. It will cut maintinence cost of the field to a minimum, and it is a great playing surface. 138 Days untill our home opener, i like your sense of urgency, but whats the big rush?

That doesn't leave a lot of time to let the stuff settle, etc. Shouldn't this have been done immediately after spring ball?

initally it was scheduled earlier but due to situations not under our control the work couldn't be started until the 12th of June - that being said that gives plenty of time before 2 a days start - once it is in it is in
