The Big 8/SWC(-4) merger has had a huge influence on college football. The Big 11+Bayor I have to admit has been a tremendous success. They and the SEC, also hugely successful are "Models" now which others hope to emulate. If the ACC/BE thing goes down it will be as a direct result of their success. THE BCS Model is a 12 team conference with a football championship game. Sooner or later when the Big 10 gets tired of waiting on ND and the Pac 10 finds suitable partners (or decides to take Utah and BYU anyway) they too will join the festivities.

You can bet that the Pac 10 will take Colorado away from the Big XII if it ever decides to expand.

The revenue share for the Pac 10 and Big XII are very similar, and the Pac 10 accomplishes it without a championship football game.

Add to that the Pac 10 actually has schools in the large media markets (LA, Bay area, Seattle, Phoenix), and CU has a huge alumni base out here.

Trouble is, there is not a 12th school for the Pac 10. The conference paid for research 12 years ago that studied every school west of the Mississippi for possible expansion. It returned only three viable candidates: Colorado, Texas and BYU.

The Pac 10 isn't interested in Texas for regional concerns (UT wouldn't leave anyway), and the Pac 10 has never been interested in BYU for what has been termed as "political reasons" (whatever that means?).

Don't bet on Pac 10 expansion; if it does happen... it will be Colorado and BYU.

Prior to the Big 12 formation Texas wanted to go to the Pac 10 but was stopped by politicians here. I agree that Colorado, if invited, will go as soon as possible. BYU would crawl to be in the Pac 10 but I don't see it happening for them. What about Nebraska? Do they have any desire to go west?.

Don't be giving CU up to Pac 10 yet. Travel cost would increase and traditional rivalries would go by the wayside. CU has no rivals in Pac 10 and it may be difficult to sell out for ASU, Oregon St, Wash St or even USC. They know they play to sellouts with UT, NEB, OU and KU and usually K St. Basketball would be adversley affected even more. There are many, many alums of Big 12 schools in the Denver area who show for those games.

VT has UVa and the Aggies next year. UVa. every year and teams like LSU, UNC, NC State, and Wisconsin on future OOC schedules. Pitt has Penn State every year, and would have Va. Tech, if they stay. So, the Big East schools should have points available to them. If Louisville joins, it won't hurt the strength of schedule vs. BC.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Except that BC has been worth major points after beating ND 3 of last 4. OOC schedules will also fall off. It is a problem to schedule BCS schools when you might win unless your another BCS school.
