\"hypocrisy of the BigEast commish\" Good article...

Good article in the "BIRMINGHAM POST-HERALD" about the hypocrisy of the BigEast commish - Tranghese...

here's the link:

& it couldn't happen to a nicer guy!!!

here's some excerpts:

Perhaps trying to appeal to the bleeding-heart liberal side of Miami President Donna Shalala — remember, she's a former Clinton Administration cabinet member — Tranghese almost broke down Monday in his pleas:

"At the end of the day, President Shalala is going to have to look at the issues we've talked about, have a look at the financial situation, have to look at the integrity issues," Tranghese said. "And then she's going to have to factor in the irreparable harm that's going to be caused to members of my league."

Tranghese continued, pathetically:

"Aside from that, and this will sound self-serving (oh, really?), this will be the most disastrous blow to intercollegiate athletics in my lifetime. It's wrong."

The comments were a stark contrast to Tranghese's words only six months earlier.

When speaking at a news conference before the Fiesta Bowl — the BCS championship game involving Miami of the Big East vs. Ohio State — Tranghese was far less understanding of the plight suffered by those schools left out of the BCS money party.

At that time, Tranghese was firm in his stance that that the six Division I-A conferences left out of the BCS (C-USA, Mountain West, Mid-American, Western Athletic and Sun Belt) would just have to keep their noses pressed outside the glass.

"I'm not a socialist," Tranghese said. "You want the BCS to be socialistic, capitalistic and anarchistic. I don't know of anyone who can get away with that.

"They want access. If I were them, I'd want access and money, too. All I said to my (Big East) schools is, 'I'm not giving them your money.'"

Obviously, it didn't seem to bother Tranghese that the BCS system has created a subset of paupers in Division I.

When Tranghese was living in the palace, he said to the outsiders smugly, "Let them eat cake!" And now that he's being tossed out to join the street urchins, he wants sympathy?

Ha!

He played dumb earlier, but now Tranghese seems know the damage the BCS system has done to those on the other side of the fence.

"How do I tell Virginia Tech, arguably a contender for the national title this season, that they won't have access to the championship anymore?" Tranghese was quoted as saying by HokieSports.com.

Perhaps he can start by asking BYU or Louisville or some other non-BCSer what it's like to start a season with that reality. Or ask them what it's like to know a team you beat 38-10 will get a BCS check while you struggle to pay the bills.

Here we have the chairman of the BCS essentially admitting the damage done to those left out of the cartel. Think that might come up in an antitrust lawsuit, if one is ever filed?

Tranghese helped create this BCS monster. He shouldn't be surprised when it turns on him.

The scavengers will enjoy picking his bones.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
