WAC confirms six credit rule

Postby PonyPride » Wed Jun 04, 2003 12:23 pm

From the Western Athletic Conference:

WAC board of directors confirms six credit rule

DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference Board of Directors, made up of the university presidents of the 10 WAC schools, voted unanimously to affirm the WAC's six credit rule for the 2003-2004 academic year.

The rule requires that student-athletes pass at least six credit hours in the most recently completed term to be eligible for post-season play.

"The WAC Board of Directors believes the six credit rule is an important piece of academic reform and one that can be applied and implemented," WAC Commissioner Karl Benson said. "The board is unanimous in support of the rule."

In other action, the WAC Board of Directors:

• Appointed a three-member subcommittee to study league membership and potential expansion candidates.

• Approved the addition of a marketing and promotions position to the WAC staff.

• Extended the contract of Commissioner Karl Benson through 2006.

So, if the WAC folds, Benson gets paid no matter what. Great deal for Benson.

I wonder who's on the expansion committee? If they do it right it would be one WAC West, one WAC east, and UTEP. They probably appointed, FSU, Hawaii, and Nevada who want to jump to the MWC.

Why exactly did they re-up Benson? Have they not realized that he hasn't done anything to better the league, and that his wait-and-see philosophy is going to leave the WAC floundering?

He must be the best self-promoter alive - he certainly hasn't done anything to merit finishing his current contract, let alone merit an extension.

I'd love to sit in on those WAC expansion meetings. I wonder if Benson even knows about them
