That's what we need at SMU! Lets shake off the spoiled rich kid montra and up more East Texas country boys!!! That's why I'm so glad Bennett is at SMU w/ his East Texas connections. As an East Texan myself ( microscopic Lone Oak pop. 550) and a current SMU student, it makes it more appealling for me, especially since there is such a small East Texas student pop. here at SMU. Anyway, good job coach and keep those East Texans comin in Image

Kurt,

As a fellow east Texan (unfortunately I'm a DFW suburbanite now)I couldn't agree more. Nothing like east Texas high school football players.

MustangKurt20 and cowboypony: I lived in Longview for several years as well as Livingston and Huntsville. I couldn't agree with you more!!! And, by the way, Mustangs35SMU, who posts here, is from East Texas, too!

I guess I'm required to chime in here.

I have a question for y'all. What do you actually consider to be "East Texas." To me, I'm not sure that Lone Oak isn't considered to be in "North Texas." I would definately consider Longview, Tyler, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Huntsville, and all their respective surrounding towns to be in East Texas.
However at some point you get into the "Arkla-Tex" going Northeast, and the "Gulf-Coast" going towards Houston.

Just a little food for thought. Anyway, I'd be interested to see some responses.

I'm sorry MustangKurt20. Your hometown officially falls under the "third coast" designation of towns.

But here's the much more important question:
How did you boys who grew up in such tiny town get together with any girls? Was there one or two girls that were just friendly with everyone? I mean, with that few people, everybody know everybody else's business. Did you have to makeout at the pond like in the movie Salem's Lot?

Lone Oak (Greenville) is only 45 minutes from Dallas. That is not East Texas. Kurt, are you really from Lone Oak???? Because that is North Texas.

There is no official answer to this question. I can assure you, however, that people from Mt. Vernon, Mt. Pleasant, Pittsburg, Winnsboro, Daingerfield, etc. clearly consider themselves from East Texas. In fact, those of us from that area do NOT consider the Jasper, Beaumon, Port Arthur, as being "east Texas." I would suggest that no one go to my areas of east Texas and suggest that you're not in east Texas. As a final point, East Texas State University (now an Aggie school) is in Commerce which, for those of you who don't know, is right north of Lone Oak.

Regardless, let's keep all of east Texas football players coming into SMU.

Beaumont and Port Arthur are in the "Golden Triangle," not really East Texas. Jasper's kinda on the cusp. I think one explanation is that the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area is considered to be "Deep East Texas" (that's not a term I made up BTW). I've also heard Longview called the "Hub" of East Texas and Jackosonville the "Heart" of East Texas. Also, you can't talk about East Texas and not mention Teneha, Timpson, Bobo and Blair "If you ain't been there, you ain't been nowhere" :-)
