Breakout player(s)?

Buddha called for Jay Taylor to have a breakout year, which got me to thinking - who else is going to really break through this year? (This isn't counting players who already have had super-productive years, like Keylon Kincade, etc.)

The easy votes, in my opinion, are Richard Bartel and Don Ieremia-Stansbury.

So I'll go for a bit more of a "reach" -- Ryan Kennedy on offense and D.D. Lee on defense.

Other votes?

Bryan Turner (hey, he's from Tyler)

And Richard Bartel is going to be second-team all-WAC, behind Luke McCown (Timmy Chang is too injury-prone)

The key to the season is the secondary. We got killed over and over and over last year becuas of horrendous seconary play, and in particular safety play. With Nn back we will be much stronger there, therefore he is my preseason defensive team MVP. Can Moodley play CB. If he can then he may give Nn a run for his money.

I've seen our safeties burned enough. It's a glaring weakness.. it's getting really embarrassing.

Have faith - Rico Harris, Jamey Harper and Alvin Nnabuife are going to get the job done this year. Rico was playing his first season in the new defense, Jamey was a true freshman and Alvin had that shoulder problem. With all 3 healthy this year, the safety spots will solidify, in my opinion.

And does Chris Cunningham qualify for "breakout" status? He missed all of last year, so this will be his first in the Bennett/Edmondson offense. Pencil him in for an All-WAC season.

...I guess instead of a breakout season he'll have a jailbreak season. i've heard those rumors too. I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to go back to UH and be with Ricky Wilson and his other close friends on that team.

That's terrible news, if it's true. He had a great spring and appeared poised to really shine this year.

That really hurts. He was getting ready to become a star.

So ... breakout players:
Rico Harris
Ryan Kennedy
Chris McMurtray
