How many more years of futility?????

Postby PonySnob » Sat Jun 21, 2003 8:39 pm

How many more years will the SMU faithful have to endure a painful football season? While there is always a lot of optimism in August, by the end of September, it has usually been dashed with a very lousy record. It looks like this year could start out very much the same as the last 5 or 6 seasons have as there is a very good chance that we come into our second home game on October 4, with a 1-3 or 0-4 record. At what point can the few die-hard fans expect more?

Your an idiot. What a sad life you must lead to just come here and type the same repititive, rhetorical questions in a different tune.

Most of the posters on this board are realists, but we prefer to be optimistic every year... and why shouldn't we be? Let's support our Mustangs, and let's not doubt their ability until we see how this next year plays out.

PonySnob: As the record book shows, winning seasons are few, and-far-between, for SMU football. We've had our moments of glory... but not many. If you find this pattern "painful", you probably oughta find another team to support... like Texas or OU. It's easy to support them. As for me, I'll back the Ponies through thick and thin, hope for the best, and be in the bleachers (home and away) whether we're 0-4 or 4-0. Don't get me wrong, I love to win. But all I can do is support the coaching staff and the team.

I think Coach Bennett should have more than a year of unquestioned faith before the skeptics arise. He's bringing in a new breed of players, but they're extremely young. Let's let his players grow and mature before we start questioning the man. All indications are that he's got us headed on the right track. We have to have patience, and faith that he'll get the job done.
