Tulsa loses QB

Found this on cnnsi.com:

Tulsa QB transfers to Oklahoma to pursue baseball

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Tulsa starting quarterback Tyler Gooch will transfer to Oklahoma to pursue a baseball career.

Gooch informed football coach Steve Kragthorpe of the decision Saturday.

Tulsa lost the first nine games of the 2002 season to stretch the nation's longest losing streak to 19. The Golden Hurricane finished 1-11.

Gooch was a standout in baseball and football in high school, but Tulsa does not have a baseball program.

"I want to give it a shot and see what happens," Gooch said in a statement.

Last year, Gooch completed 55 percent of his passes for 2,100 yards and 17 touchdowns. In 20 career games, Gooch threw for 2,925 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also rushed for 580 yards and three touchdowns.

That is a loss for the Golden Hurricane. Even though he had little talent around him, Gooch made a lot of plays for Tulsa. He'll be hard to replace. Good luck to him at OU.

Other returning QBs on the Tulsa roster:
Sophomore Shane Davison (6-1, 198)
Senior Jake Hammond (6-3, 218)
Junior Landon Keopple (6-0, 180)
Senior James Kilian (6-4, 218)
RE freshman Paul Smith (6-2, 175)

(By the way, former South Garland LB Leroy White also has been released. It seems he was suspended for some undisclosed violation of team rules, and didn't want to remain under the terms of his probation, according to the Tulsa website.)
