Earliest date we could move

Assumming we are invited to join CUSA in the next several months, what is the earliest date that we could start playing in another conference? Would it be the 2004 season or would we have to wait until 2005?

While it is still a lower tier Div 1 conference, CUSA is perceived as being better than the Weak [deleted] Conference that we are currently part of.

Kurt and 06 - you guys are celebrating a win at halftime - I stopped doing that after the Ol Miss game a few years back. There is ALOT of a** kissing to be done prior to any formal decisions - and I bet we are talking a year from now before anything new happens.

Possible timing is dependent on many things, including the following events, (not necessarily in a precise order):

1. BE moves adding two to three FB schools (Louisville, Cincinnati, East Carolina and S. FLA with a long shot of getting Navy and Army as FB only members. BB schools separate into a separate conference by merging BB schools with Conf. USA BB members.
2. ACC expands by 1 (Louisville, So. Carollina, Kentucky or ND (very long shot)
3. Either Conf. USA or WAC moves to create a Southern oriented division or conference.
4. MWC expands by two to four (Boise State, Nevada, Hawaii, Fresno State)
5. Sunbelt and MAC fight for continued Division 1A Status
6. NCAA Reforms are launched.
7. BCS morphs into Bowl Alliance within NCAA, while Mid-Majors get a seat at the table of post season play-offs.
8. Myles Brand resigns as President of NCAA.

Beggin' a few pardons, but other than being back in a league with TCU (which some of you have said "never again" in recent days); anyway, what would be the difference of where you are now to an existence in a league that black-balled and gave SMU a very awkward and embarrassing moment not that long ago?

Perception? The "P" word and a buck might get you a cup of coffee at McDonalds. CUSA's football co-champion was not that special at the New Orleans Bowl of which I think some of you know the results of that game.

1. Better bowl tie-ins
2. closer teams (lower travel cost - more fans)
3. natual rivalries vs "who are they" west coastism
4. better media coverage

that enough?

So you are saying that the WAC really just does not fill the bill for SMU then?

Otherwise, you have convinced me with your answers. I was just curious, but CUSA did cause your alma mater one helluva' awkward embarrassing episode for SMU when they chose to only add TCU a few years ago & hanging you all out to dry. So concerning SMU's previous dealings with CUSA: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me?

That was a coup from the BASKETBALL schools, they invited ECU as full membership over us (plus we were like 0-4 at the time in FB).

CUSA should raid Beast and get this deal over...kill the BEAST
