The New Blue End Zones

Postby GoRedGoBlue » Mon Jul 14, 2003 8:05 pm

Ok, I was worried, so I went over to SMU today and took a peek...

The blue end zones are much darker than they appear in the pictures. The end zone 'pads' that are on the brick near the corners (to keep players safe) are true Navy blue, and the end zones match that color shade...the only caveat is that with the sun blazing down at an angle, some of the blades give a slight royal blue tint.

Remember, they will still cut out and stich the WHITE hash marks and the 'S M U' and 'M U S T A N G S' into the endzones...with the white lettering, the blue will appear even darker to the eye.

The field looks really sweet with the new carpet...

A soccer camp has the practive fields looking bad, though.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I know we have beat this subject to death, but Reid Parker sent me an email today correcting a statement I posted here yesterday.

He communicated to me that the field manager told him that the pony at mid-field will be the size it was in 2000, which was larger than it has been for the last two seasons.

Hopefully that's the finale to this story.

I'm pretty confident it will look good in the end, and I agree its darker in person right now than the picture, but only slightly. I still think it looks very Royal Blue and hope the rubber addition will darken it several shades.

I hope the Ponies are in the end zone often enough that we have to discuss how our jerseys look against the blue background.

Like someone else said.. guys, the QB isn't throwing from the press box... he can't see the endzone color too well from the field.
