The world is coming to an end

Postby Fresh » Tue Jul 15, 2003 11:37 am

OK, it's not SMU, but I couldn't let this pass:

Rush Limbaugh is joining the lineup for ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown show.

WHY?!?!?!?!?

Surely ABC (which is owned by the same folks who own ESPN) showed that throwing an entertainer into sportscasting doesn't work. Dennis Miller is extremely funny, but he was lost in the Monday Night Football booth. Now they're going to let this moronic blowhard tell us why the Jets will lose to the Dolphins and what routes the Seahawks need to have Koren Robinson run to escape the Cover-2 defense? I don't listen to this idiot talk politics - I sure as hell don't want to know whether he thinks Parcells should start Quincy Carter or Chad Hutchinson at quarterback.

I'd rather hear 90 minutes of Chris Berman's non-interviews than 90 seconds of what this self-promoting nitwit has to say. I hope this stupid experiment fails miserably.

You're the moron. Rush Limbaugh KNOWS football. I'm looking forward to it, and he's not nearly as outspoken as Dennis Miller.

There was serious consideration for RUSH for MNF...

He was to keep politics out.

He may very well know something about football. So do you and I. That doesn't mean we should be on TV, either. Dennis Miller might have known football, too, but he relied on his area of expertise - entertainment - and took away from the broadcast by trying to be funny. While I don't agree with everything he says, I recognize that Rush is a very intelligent man and a very charismatic speaker. But he should stay in his area of expertise, which is not football.

ESPN has done very well with proven sportscasters, former players and former coaches, and should stick with that formula.

Even if he talks politics it couldn't be anymore than Cosell used to. Just a conservative instead of a liberal. What we really need is more criminals like Michael Irvin on the shows who can't speak English. If I hear "he would have ran" one more time from idiotic jocks, I believe I'll start complaining more than about a Rush or Dennis.

Rush started as a sportscaster. He knows the business. Good move ESPN.

I've got to agree with Fresh here. For political discussion, I like listening to Rush. For sports, give me someone who's been in the industry in the last few decades.

Let's give the guy a chance. He knows football and as he would say, he is a broadcast professional vs. a politico.

How would you like to be pigeoned-holed and kept out of a job?

...and folks wonder what my reasons are for not watching professional sports anymore! This is just another reason.

He'll last as long as Dennis Miller did in the booth. Next thing you know, they'll have that other windbag, Dr. Phil, taking a seat! LOL

Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Phil ... what's the difference? Would it really matter? Neither has anything legitimate to contribute.

Can't you see his prep work?

Secretary: "Uh, Coach Cowher, there's a Rush Limbaugh on line 2, he says he wants to talk about your blocking schemes this weekend."

<Cowher hangs up>

Secretary: "Coach? Coach? Are you there?"

Hopefully he gets the boot even faster than Miller did.

Can we get Al Franken to join him? I would pay to see that.
