Blue Endzone Update

Postby GoRedGoBlue » Tue Jul 15, 2003 10:19 pm

Went by the field again, they had the outline/stencil of 'M U S T A N G S' on the SOUTH end zone...

The rubber that I saw in bags that they are going to put down looks like ground up red track shavings...and the 'silica' are round light tan pellets about 1/4 to 1/2 the size of BBs

The field also seems like the main field is a darker green (slightly) than the surrounding field outside the white border (i.e., the area that players stand on during the game, and beyond the end zones).

It looks like it will make everything stand out perfect.

I can't wait to see it finished.

ALSO! The BOULEVARD is being re-paved. I couldn't see how far they are going to go, but it seemed like the main entrance up to the split (where the center median is) was under construction. As I drove past the Natatorium from the freshman parking lot, they had that blocked off as well ...

So perhaps the entire main entrance from Mockingbird up to the Flag Pole will be new this year...a sorely needed improvement.

Anyone confirm this ??

GRGB: My Mom works at SMU. She says that ALL of Bishop Boulevard is being re-surfaced...all the way up to the flagpole in front of Dallas Hall. Should be a nice addition for the tailgate functions this year. Let's keep it looking nice, Mustangs!

The good thing about the Blvd. construction is they are not just re-paving it, they are "re-building" the whole foundation. That way it will last longer. Re-paving just covers up the cracks and creates big potholes.

Good Point. I meant they had dug out the entire substrate and were going to replace the concrete bed. I just didn't know how far they were going to carry it...appearantly all the way to the Flag Pole turnabout.

It should look awesome.

Also, I found out that the bags of red rubber are probably for the resurfacing of the track (I had reported earlier that it seemed like track rubber was going to be used).

Anyone seen the stiching of 'MUSTANGS' yet?

UPDATE: I was at Ford yesterday afternmoon. Looked like all the carpet was down. I couldn't tell if they were sewing or painting, but it looked like the graphics for the south end zone were nearing completion. They were also outlining/painting the yard #s.

Like someone said, the carpet looks overly green. High contrast for sure. I don't think it looks quite as nice as the real grass, but I wonder if it'll fade back a bit when exposed to the Texas sun year after year.

Anyway, it's getting close, and we'll get some pictures up as soon as they've finished.

The blue is navy, the camera is catching some UV rays or something...non-polarized lense perhaps, making it appear more Royal Blue than it is...

If you look at pics from the East and then another from the West, you will see the main field green is different from the outside green...

In other words, if you are West looking East, from the pictures, the field seems very dark while the outline green is lighter.
<A HREF="http://www.smumustangs.com/facilities/fordstadium/aturf/0718/Pic03.jpg" TARGET=_blank>http://www.smumustangs.com/facilities/fordstadium/aturf/0718/Pic03.jpg</A>

But looking West, the opposite seems true.http://www.smumustangs.com/facilities/f ... /Pic05.jpg

But from the North, they seem about the same:

I suppose they are just painting the field before they spread the 'gravel' inside it. That is probably ok since new plastic paints are pretty much permanent anyway.

From this picture, one would think that they are painting the lines since the 'Red' outline is not complete on the "M"

However, why would they have weighted bags on the whites of each letter??

Confused...

My understanding is that each letter or number replaces the turf below it and is actually stitched or glued or both into the fabric of the turf mat...not painted.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
