Question for Mr. Copeland or Dr. Turner

Postby BUS » Tue Jul 22, 2003 5:33 pm

What are the chances that the NCAA OK's a ten team team to have conference championship game?

I see this as huge to how the next move effects SMU.

If anyone can forward this message - please do.

Here's what we know...

Big East, Big Ten, Big XII, SEC have all stated they would not stand in the way. In fact, Mike Tranghese said in a USA Today article that he is in favor of all conferences to be eligible regardless of size.

Here's what is speculated...

Pac 10 would likely favor because they could produce more revenue without having to dilute their brand.

MWC could gain more revenue without having to expand past their current footprint, and the conference could divide the revenue 10 ways instead of 12.
==================
Here's the sticky wicket...

So really, you're talking about the 43 schools in the MAC, WAC, CUSA and Sunbelt.

One, will the Sunbelt even survive?

Two, would the Big East schools' new conference, the MWC expansion, and the Division 1A status rules sink CUSA and the WAC below the required 6 members who have 5 years of conference affiliation?

Three, just how many schools from the MAC are going to survive the D1A status rules?

Those answers will sway votes.

I would guess the rule would pass fairly easily.
