Who is the strongest guy on the team?

Postby Hotel California » Sun Apr 30, 2000 12:00 am

I am curious as to who is the strongest guy both pound for pound and all-around strongest. Thanks for any info, if anyone has it! I know that Joey Slaten used to be very strong, and as far as pound for pound goes, Steve O'Neil was up there. Does this sound right?

Pound-for-pound: Jeff Woods.

Overall: I don't know -- Joey Slaten? Steve Reindl? Danny Murphy?

I would be surprised if Danny Murphy is the strongest guy on the team, seeing as he is only a freshman!

Isn't Devonric Johnson supposed to be REALLY strong for his size? Could he challenge Jeff Woods for the pound-for-pound title?

From what I hear, pound for pound, Jeff would be "da man". Also, the O'Neil brothers, whose father is a body builder, are right up there.

True - the O'Neills are huge. Very thick.

Based on the pre-spring training strength index (Nebraska system), Steve O'Neill is the strongest on the team, both pound for pound and overall. He has scored the highest in this competition for the last two years. This year he broke 2 school records in the process.

He broke Chris Bordano's previous record of 1895 total points with a total of 1919 points. He also set a new bench press record of 435 lbs.

Jeff Woods came in second place with 1901 points.

Shane O'Neill and Devonric Johnson tied for third place (not sure of points).

Another interesting statistic about Steve: Today the players were timed (by Accutrack) in the 40. Steve, Johnnie Freeman, and Khalid Beard all ran a 4.49 40. There may have been others that I am not aware of who did as well or better.

It is also true that Steve's & Shane's dad is a previous bodybuilder. He was Mr. Texas in 1975.

WHat about Vic Viloria? Is he really strong for his size (granted, he's a little small), or does he just make plays based on his hustle and determination?
