non-BCS Ammunition

To counter the BCS-ers...

The BCS argument that no non-BCS team has competed in the 4 major bowls since 1945 is bogus because...

First, many of the current BCS teams were 'non-BCS' when they competed in those bowls, like Penn State, Pitt, and Miami. Second, the current 4 major bowls were not the ONLY major bowls (the Fiesta was a minor bowl before) up until the BCS...for example, the Cotton bowl was a New Years bowl and SMU in the early 1980s, UH in the late 70s, competed in that as highly ranked teams. Hell, OU and ALABAMA played in the Bluebonnet Bowl. BYU won a National Championship in 1984 in the Holiday Bowl.

The argument is MORE than just the 4 major bowls, but all of the conference tie-ins to the remaining sub-major bowls as well. If a highly ranked TCU team say was #8, ok, so they don't play for the national championship, but shouldn't they play in the Cotton Bowl against a #9 or #7 team? They cannot because of the tie-ins.

Furthermore, the BCS use the 'benefits' they enjoy as a recruiting tool to get better players. They also ONLY scheduled non-BCS teams for 2-for-1's, whereas the TOP10 teams ranked last year played vs. non-BCS teams in a ratio of 6 to 1 at HOME...so of course their records against the non-BCS are going to be highly skewed in their favor.
