IF we got on the ball and coach bennett pulled things together, in an optimal situation, here's what I think would happen.

Nevada-win
UTEP-win
San Jose State-win
Boise State-lose
Tulsa-win
Fresno State-win (barely)
Louisiana Tech-win
Rice-win
TCU-lose

Overall (7-5)

What does everyone else think? And should Tate really be starting?

I would think 4 wins would be a very good starting point for SMU. Realistic opportunities for wins are UTEP, SJSU, Tulsa and Rice. La Tech is a possibility to pick up a 5th win, but I don't think SMU has the horses (er ponies) to beat FSU, Nevadav, BSU or TCU. If SMU could finish 5-7 (5-3 in the WAC) or even 4-8 (4-4), then Bennett will have done a solid job. Best of luck at Nevada!

Isee one win with about a 50/50 chance for 2 more. Three is possible but it looks like a 2 win season to me.

I have no frickin clue. It all comes down to whether the Oline can block somebody. Then we have to figure out a way to win close games, because we are not gonna blow anybody out. That comes back to pressure field goals. We have not played well at Nevada before. I think the line is so lopsided because of the altitude there. The bookmakers know how hard it is for teams from sea level to adjust.

This team is going to struggle against anyone who throws the ball well.

Nevada - 50/50
UTEP - Win
SJS - Win
BS - Loss
Tulsa - Win
Fresno - Loss
LT - Loss
Rice - Win
TCU - Loss

I would be happy with a .500 conference season. Nevada is icing on the cake.

Let me add that no way in hell Tate should start, I don't care if Bartel loses the next 4 games. We need to play for the future, so if Bartel doesn't cut it, get a frosh in the game.

I've seen nothing to cause me to change my pre-season prediction of 3-9, which I really think will be an improvement over last year. UTEP and Rice are winnable as home games and we should be able to upset either San Jose or Tulsa on the road (that's right, Tulsa will probably be favored to beat us in Tulsa)

This team could alter my prediction by beating Nevada this week. I sure hope so, and I don't care who QBs or whether they do it by committee...just win, baby!
