Remembering the later years of the TV series Dallas had frequent shots of SMU as one of the characters was a "student" here...

"Surf or ski."

Yeah, there's also a picture of Cushman in an SMU uniform. So we got that going for us, which is nice.

I worked on Jerry Maguire. They actually had a TON of SMU paraphernalia deressed in the set for the office pre Cushman draft scenes. But when we finally shot it, pretty much most of it had been removed. Went from pretty stoked, to pretty bummed. I thought that the company didn't get proper clearance.

Go Ponies!

Here is a fictitious SI cover featuring our fictitious QB from Jerry Maguire.

NFL Network did a fake Football Life for Cush.

Cush and his dad were pretty much jerks in the movie.

The Last Picture Show, nominated for 8 Oscars and winner of 2, is set in West Texas and based on a novel by Larry McMurtry.

Led character was Jacey, played by Cybill Shepherd, a manipulative teenager from an oil wealthy family. Clad in plaid, she's the prettiest girl around, shallow, b*tchy, a little slutty and terminally bored with her small town life.

Pretty sure the film makes reference to Jacey attending SMU.

If you have ever seen Larry Crowne, the snobbish character involved in the firing of Tom Hank’s portrayal of Larry Crowne, proudly shows his ring and declares to be an SMU grad. He later is delivering pizzas after also being fired.

Yep. It’s a great movie, no doubt.

Another favorite of mine is HUD, also filmed in West Texas, also filmed in black & white, also written by Larry McMurtry.

Rather impressive list of Oscar nominated actors from these movies: Paul Newman, Melvyn Douglas (win), Patricia Neal (win), Jeff Bridges, Ben Johnson (win), Ellen Burstyn and Cloris Leachman (win).

I bought the film for my Amazon library recently. Interesting after viewing the film and looking for the SMU story line I missed it.

I think the original TV show "Dallas" had lots of shots of SMU, because Lucy was a coed there. I can't speak to the new one, because it well, it stunk and I stopped watching after one episode even though it had the hot chick from Fast and Furious in it. Kind of funny that very few things were filmed here given that Aaron Spelling was an alum, as were Kathy Bates, Morgan Fairchild, Powers Boothe, Saundra Santiago, Patricia Richardson, Stephen Tobolowski and writer Beth Henley.

A bunch of guys were in On Any Given Sunday. I know both Merc Hall and Tyree Taylor were shown in the film.

Haven’t thought about those two names in a while.
