Is Three a Crowd?

Postby Hoop Fan » Fri Sep 26, 2003 3:34 pm

SMU-Rice-Tulsa that is. Does overexpansion in the West throw off the balance of CUSA and dilute the product and revenues? Maybe, quite possibly. I'd hate to join another WAC-16 situation. On the other hand, TCU already knows that Memphis, ECU and USF have a wandering eye. What if they bolt in a couple years for an eastern league? Would TCU and SMU be sorry at that point that they let Rice fall by the wayside? Maybe, quite possibly actually. I think thats what is behind the apparent solidarity of the SMU-Rice and Tulsa. It could backfire on us though. Ideally, Rice would use its massive endowment that they have never touched for facilities to keep them afloat in the Sun Belt for a couple years. I know it sounds selfish, but CUSA has a better chance of prospering if it doesnt overexpand and stays balanced.
