I predict a win

Postby Nacho » Thu Oct 09, 2003 11:59 am

I must have writer's block. I can't seem to get past that first sentence. I'll come back when I can flesh it out a little. Sorry for wasting your time.

Not a waste of time at all
Because you're right.

Think about it: the Ponies have fixed one aspect of the game each week.

Before Tech, we thought Allan Adami was the only DT on the roster. Desmond Jones showed up big against Tech (before the game got out of hand).

In the Baylor game, we discovered that Brandon Bonds can play a little bit. He and Jones have added much-needed size to the DT position.

Against OSU, Tate Wallis showed we can move the ball, at least a little, against a bigtime super-athletic defense.

Against Nevada, we showed that we can shut down a very powerful offense when our defense plays the way its capable of playing.

Against UTEP, we discovered that we have dangerous weapons on kickoff return (Rutledge) and on punt return (Warren).

So, is SMU a complete team? No. Not even close. But we are improving, and when we add one more element this week (not sure what that will be, but I'll be watching), the Ponies will pick up their first victory of the year Saturday in SJ.

I've seen Rice play, and if Rice beat San Jose, SMU will beat San Jose.

I'm not predicting a win. But I hope SMU will win. I'll believe it when I see it.

I like Roach's "one step at a time" improvement analysis.

I would like to believe we can win, but it hurts too much to hope and fail. Bennett may be able to do what he did last year, and finally win a few games by the end of the season; in which case this may mean he is either a slow learner or that the WAC is so weak that even we can win sometimes once we get into the conferecne schedule.
