Another amazing record?

Postby PonyFan » Sun Oct 19, 2003 10:35 am

Last year we set a record (as far as anyone can tell) by throwing four passes that were picked off by defensive ends.

Against Boise State, we HAD to set another when TWO plays were directly affected by a player's heel. First, Bartel dumped a little screen pass over the line that was headed to the ground as an incompletion .... only to hit Steve Reindl's heel and bounce straight up for an interception. Then, just before halftime, Dinwiddie threw maybe his only bad pass of the game (season?) behind a receiver, and Jonas Rutledge was waiting to make an interception (with nothing but open field ahead of him.) But the pass was so low it hit the receiver's heel, knocking it away from Rutledge.

I know that to some degree, you make your own luck, but some things just aren't fair:

- That fan in Chicago doesn't deserve to be villified for reaching for a foul ball - we all would have done the same thing.

- Nomar Garciaparra doesn't deserve Mia Hamm (I do)

- Coaches and quarterbacks generally don't deserve as much credit as they get for wins, or as much blame as they get for losses.

- Mack Brown doesn't deserve to get the quality of players he signs every February.

- and SMU doesn't deserve flukes like having TWO passes bounce the wrong way off players' heels.
"What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"
