Tickets.....

Postby Spaz » Thu Oct 23, 2003 11:57 pm

Are we gonna be able to walk up and get tickets on Saturday for the SMU section? And how much are they gonna be? Any student discounts?

BTW, it looks like a lot of people don't want to go to Tulsa now that are in the band. Not that I blame them since we can't play in the stadium (damn Tulsa Athletic directors...). So no parking lot music. But there will be a handful of us there and we'll probably be VERY noticable. And I'll probably be VERY drunk since it'll be the day before my birthday...

Wait, that's the reason the band isn't going? What the **** is up with that policy?

Just make sure that guy that plays the drums and is soooooo energetic at the SMU basketball games is there!

Sometimes at the SMU hoops games he wears a cowboy hat and he just plays the drums like a mad-man!

That dude is fun to watch. If our football team had his enthusiasm we might have already won a couple of games!

Other teams have brought their bands with. I am guessing the problem is that unless you are officially bringing the SMU band, you can't play in the stadium.

The problem was there was no director...and I guess the Tulsa athletic department things we are highschool children and cannot be trusted to play in the stands without "adult" supervision. I guess it is less common than I thought that most of hte time our directors just kinda sit there and let us run ourselves. Dunno. Anyway, if anybody doesn't like the fact that we can't come, when we wanted to come play at our own expense, (like has been done before with no problem) then you can either call A. Our athletic department and ask why they didn't fund us to make an official trip, or B. the Tulsa atheletic department for not realizing that we are in COLLEGE.

You forget option C: Call your band director and ask him to go with the band.

C isn't really an option, because there is no money really for any more trips. We have already played at Texas Tech (busses, overnight stay, meals) and Baylor. We will also be going to the La Tech game. This is the most away games in a long time for the MBand to travel to in a single season (at least since the SWC). It has been fun, but I wish we consistently had more money for the closer trips like Tulsa. We run on a real tight budget. I know it has been said 1000 times, so I'll make this 1001, if you want to help out the band, donate some money to the Diamond M Club. A little bit can go a long way!

Load the director in your car with you. ;)

I do have a question though-- does the money for the trips come from the Band's budget or the Athletic departments? Seems to me (IIRC) that TU's band is usually funded outside of the band program for trips.

The energetic dude with the cowboy hat from basketball games is the same one who runs across the field during halftime (the drum major).

Ok, to clear up the Why Isn't Our Director Going thread...
Next week, every night, from about 6 pm till MIDNIGHT!!!! The band will be working on getting ready for PigSkin Revue, the annual Variety show that we put on the night before homecoming. Considering that BOTH directors will be doing this, I don't blame them for wanting to have a weekend off to see their families or whatever right before they dissapear for the week.
Also, if any of you Pony Fans wanna come see this Awesome thing, we play, you dance, there's comedy skits (provided by yours truly) and some singers and dancers. CALL (214) 768-2263. That's (214) SMU-BAND!
PS, I don't think Dancing Cowboy will be at Tulsa, but I think he'll be at alot of BBall games, jamming out whilst I play the Bass Guitar.

The Spaz

ALSO, I don't think anyone answered the question about TICKETS?!?!?

Sorry. Tickets. Yes, you will be able to walk up and buy tickets. My advice to the poor student types is to just buy a $9 endzone ticket and then sneak on over to the visitor section. Request the south endzone, as it is right by the visitor's section. Visiting section tickets are only $12 so it's not going to break you either way. ;)

You are still welcome to come by the party. I think the drink of the week may be hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps. We'll have to see though...

Sorry, but that drummer with the cowboy hat will be too deep in combat with a 10-page spanish research paper and reading Don Quijote de la Mancha to attend the Tulsa game.

Come basketball season, I'm sure he'll make quite a few appearances, but until then just come to the home football games and watch the band rock out.

Oh you gotta love it. The horns, the drums, the noise! It's all for the love of music, for the love of the game.
