Could be fun - Tradition

Postby BUS » Tue May 16, 2000 9:55 am

Last year I remember seeing an Owl on a stick with a bloody knife run through it. I thought it was kind of funny but I could see haw it could be scary to some little kids and may be more for the European soccer crowd.

My thought is to bring my own pony.

While cleaning out my 8 year old daughters room I found a stick horse. Nice Blue horse with read reigns and a black mane.

We could all way our ponies in support of our Mustangs.

Could be fun and just think what it would look like is 3000 stick horses were being waved after a touchdown.

Just a thought...

I like that idea alot BUS, in fact, a smart fellow would design a small stick horse to manufacture and sell at the games.

I thought the Owl was great last year although it definitely might be a little much with kids around. Then again, this is college football and I think it was a good sign of spirit.
As for the Pony on a stick suggestion, I don't see a bunch of grown men walking around with riding ponies on game day, especially at SMU (where unlike the Sprite commercials image is everything) . I think this tradition may have been possible if started back in the day, but I don't see it catching on if initiated today. I would definitely love to see some more unified support, but don't see the Pony on a stick being the answer. Perhaps big foam pony ears or something a little more mainstream would catch on a little quicker and bring all of us together on 9-2-2000.

I think the miniature Pony on a Stick would work. Something definitely different than the Foam. The Image thing would say "I have school spirit!!". Leave it up to BUS.

Do you worry about stick horses getting snatched by visiting fans and/or used to club someone? Juvenile, to be sure, but I worry about that. Also, our fill-in Peruna dragged an Owl (stuffed) in a noose around the basketball court at Moody - until securty took it away.

I think if adults are willing to wave tomahawks and try to do an indian war chant at games ala Florida State and Atlanta, then the horse on a stick could work.
