One BIG reason to remain optimistic

Postby LA_Mustang » Sun Nov 16, 2003 5:48 pm

Chris Phillips!
Wow, this kid is going to be a player. When we get more athletes around him with similar talent, it should get interesting. Give him some protection, a healthy Massey, a couple of receivers with size, and open the offense up.

We still have hope.

Of course there's hope! And not just those. Foy Munlin is going to be a stud! And some of those redshirt linemen are going to be really good, too. Charles Akinyemi is going to be a really good corner, too. And more than that, the guys who made their first appearances this year will be a year older and stronger.

If you look at our weaknesses this year, it starts at the QB position and with Phillips and Meeks, you have to feel better about the future. What about the secondary? With Akinyemi, McGee, Turner, Moss & Dorsey all competint next year for playing time, we will certainly have more spped and depth back there. We were worried about giving KK fewer snaps? With Munlin and Massey coming in plus guys like Fitzgerald, Dorsey and Turner we should have more competition for carries and more depth at RB.

Perhaps the biggest issue if we are going to be more competitive is increased size, strength and depth in the trenches. With only 2 senior linemen leaving, it's got to be better...right?

This has been a very depressing year, but there are plenty of reasons to feel good about the future. Bring on recruiting season!

It's good to see positive comments about the future of SMU football, I'm with you LA, we have a quarterback with promise and we have size and talent next year plus I think you will see a new attitude from the fans for Bennett when he is coaching his recruits, (now fellers I think the poor man has tried to honor the scholarships that were there this year and it ain't been good for him or the team much less all of us)so.. I say let's Chill out and expect some wins in '04
