Do we have a computer geek sharp enough to calculate what the BCS scenerio would have been the year we played Pittsburg in the Cotton Bowl and finished 2nd in most all polls to Penn State although we were the only unbeaten team in the country. Our strength of schedule should have been pretty good with the old SWC, but I am curious if we would have been 1, 2, or even lower in the standings. Would we have played Penn State for the Championship or would one or two other teams have been involved. Speak up Geeks.

How great would it have been to see Dickerson vs Herchel Walker in a game? Plus instead of 33 degree sleet - we might have been in NO, after a night of "celebrating". I still get cold thinking about that Pitt game.

Smoopower:

I had no idea our SOS was that bad. I think you are probably right that we would not have been BCS selected for the final 2, and I completely left Georgia out of the equation. Good work in a short time. Now......about my taxes!

i remember it being that bad. i was in school 1979-1983, and as i recall, we never played a big time program (or even a 'kind of' big time program) outside of the SWC. UTA, NTSU, Grambling, Wichita State one year (do they even still play football?). i think we did play tulane once or twice. of course, we won all of those games, but they were hard teams to get pumped up for.

i know also that prior to my time at SMU we did play some name programs: Ohio State, Penn State.
