You know the funny thing is... That if Josh put up those kind of numbers BEFORE coming to SMU, he would be PRECISELY the kind of transfer that Stallion is always clamoring over (after all, a stud DII QB transfer would be even better than a JUCO transfer, right?).

Sorry Stallion, I couldn't resist. Flame away.
This isnt a flame, but you do realize that D-1AA and DII are not the same thing, dont you?

I'm sure Peruna Punch knows the difference...he has probably been dipping too much in that putried looking punch he has in his signiture punch bowl.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Johnny Rock.......

Ok Johnny... so Josh sucks and he is starting in the NFL....and it wasn't Cavan's fault but nobody has hired him?

Johnny Rock Logic:
Josh = NFL Starting Quarterback = SUCKS
Cavan = Basically Unemployed = Good Coach

Summary = Johnny Rock lives in a fantasy land!

You people that do not give Josh McCown credit are obviously really [deleted]. The guy is having success in the NFL and that is not good enough for you. You can say that he is clumbsy and he fumbles and bumbles, but that guy is one of the better all-around athletes i have seen. Just b/c he didnt have success here at SMU shouldnt be enough reason to bash him. If that was of any importnace then the NFL wouldnt have ever taken a chance on him. What you ignorant people fail to realize is that not all QBs are gonna be successful in every type of system. It is definitely a combination of several things that may cause someone a little bit of bad luck. To put the blame on one individual is about as ridiculous as Stallion knowing anything about football. You take Carson Palmer, Rex Grossman, BJ Symmons, Eli Manning, or anyone else with their stature, and i bet even those guys would be unsuccessful at SMU. So quit ripping a guy that has made something of himself by doing the best thing possible: leaving such a demoralizing place such as SMU

EdWiz, quit being a traitor because you support one of the best athletes to attend SMU, only to leave to better himself for a future NFL career.

The people who bash Josh obviously know so little of the entire situation. Josh was multi-talented with a 70 yard arm and future prospects, but sometimes made incorrect reads and didn't protect the ball. Fairly enough, can any of you idiots show me one, other than David Page (who was robbed of a legitimate shot), of the latest QB's to not do that regularly? Luckily, Phillips has a solid chance to rewrite that script. But he is not the point and the same people bashing McCown now probably said exactly what they hope for Phillips in the future.

Coaches are responsible for placing players in the best positions to win. Period. While Josh was playing at SMU, he was never in a system that best suit him, and when two very hard heads (Cavan's and Josh's) don't exactly mesh, problems arise. Josh took the other side and left the program. In doing so, he played for a coach at SHSU that saw his talents and built an offense around him, much like any good coach should do. Congratulations Josh, you're putting together a decent run for serious NFL quarterbacking in the future.

Varsity Shop, Cavan never put his name out for another job after he left so don't make that an argument. He took a very cush job within the UGA athletic department while still drawing around 30K a month from SMU until 2004. Man did he get screwed?

I don't know the situations in the athletic department regarding inabilities to level playing fields and whatever else, but Cavan wasn't the sole problem, just as Bennett isn't. But in time, as we will dreadfully see, Cavan may turn out to be the better players' coach, Bennett the better recruiter, but SMU still in shambles because this ship is sinking remarkably quickly because that operation is being run like a complete cluster****.

As Sgt. Joe Friday said, "Just the facts, ma'm."
Josh McCown saw action in 10 games, here are his stats:

10 games
95 of 166 (57 percent)
1,018 yards
5 TDs
6 INTs
28 rushes for 158 yards (5.6)
sacked 25 times for -174 yards
10 fumbles, 2 lost

BUT... in the last month his stats are:

4 games
70 of 118 (59 percent)
790 yards (197 yards per game)
5 TDs
2 INTs
19 rushes for 108 yards (5.7)
23 sacks for -162
7 fumbles, 1 lost

well to demonstrate what a helpless little, sitting duck McCown is because he can't find receivers-those sack numbers were acheived in 3 1/2 games not 4-but to give him the benefit of the doubt if you multiply those stats by 4 to make a full 16 game season McCown would have 92 sacks an incedible 43 sacks more than the NEXT CLOSEST NFL QB at 49. And if you multiply his yards lost in sacks he would have 696 yards lost in sacks SHATTERING the record of the next worst sack-king by more than 320 yards. So basically McCown gets sacked approaching 100% more and loses approaching 100% more than the next worst QB. There is very little doubt that in a full season McCown would shatter any NFL fumble record. Same old bumbling, stumbling McCown.

...OMG! I've got a headache from reading all those numbers...geez...But he's still playing on Sunday. And I'll bet a LARGE pizza at Campisi's that he will be next year, too!

He has a better qb rating than Jeff Blake did...

And a better rating than -

David Carr
Joey Harrington
Drew Brees
Doug Johnson
Kordell Stewart
Kyle Boller

For goodness sakes, you can't blame all those sacks on Josh. The Card's OL sucks!

And yes, I know the difference between DII and D1AA. There are those people who speak before they think, and then there are people like me who type before they think.

when you are getting sacked AT LEAST twice as much as the QB playing on the team with the 29th best offensive line in the NFL you can be damn sure you got a QB that doesn't know what he's doing.

You are an idiot. He is starting for an NFL team, which under his leadership just beat the Minnesota Vikings. I would say he knows exactly what he is doing.

Big Cat.....don't you know Stallion knows more than the NFL?

Stallion's boy Cavan "ran off" two SMU Quarterbacks that at least made it to the NFL.

It is ridiculous to say these two guys that made it to the NFL were "not good enough" to play at SMU.

They prove the problem wasn't them..... it was Stallion's boy Cavan.

Like someone said yesterday...Stallion dismisses the Josh/Sanders wonderful results at Div 2A schools....but then Stallion thinks players at the Junior College level are the "saviors" for SMU Football.

Now obviously Josh McCown & Chris Sanders are not the next Joe Montana......but they made it farther up the ladder than 90% of the guys that ever suited up to play the game.

I guess if Sanders & Josh, who after they got away from Cavan had great success, are not the next NFL's Terry Bradshaw then in Stallion's warped mind "they suck".

Any Questions?

=================================================

College Experience:
Chris Sanders started 22 games in two seasons for Tennessee Chattanooga after transferring from Southern Methodist University . He set UTC records for passing yards (7,230), touchdowns (49), completions (584), 200-yard games (22), 300-yard games (12) and total offense (7,247).Sanders was one of 16 finalists for the Walter Payton Award for top player in NCAA Division I-AA as a senior. He led the Southern Conference in all major passing categories and set the school’s single season records for passing yards (3,691) and total offense (3,756 ). He tied a school record with six touchdown passes against Mississippi Valley State. He earned honorable mention All-American honors as a junior passing for 3,539 yards and a school record 27 touchdowns. Sanders played in 20 games with 10 starts at SMU recording 1,728 yards and 12 touchdowns before transferring.
