TEXAS LONGHORNS CHOKE AGAIN?

Postby VarsityShop » Tue Dec 30, 2003 11:05 pm

Can You Believe Those TEXAS LONGHORNS CHOKED AGAIN?

What is it about UT?

Best Recruits, Biggest Budget, Most Media Coverage, Highest Paid Coach, and they CHOKE!

Texas was ranked #5 in the country....Washington State wasn't even in the Top 10!

Oh My Those Arrogant Horn Fans Are Crying 2nite!

Which Mack Brown loss was the most inexcusable?
1998 Kansas State (7-48)
1999 Arkansas - Cotton Bowl (6-27)
2000 Stanford (24-27)
2000 Oregon - Holiday Bowl (30-35)
2001 Colorado - Big XII Championship (37-39)
2002 Texas Tech (38-42)
2003 Arkansas (28-38)
2003 Washington State (28-20)
Lets not talk about the losses to OU!

I have a friend who I get together with every year and we make a bet on who can correctly pick the most bowl winners, with each of us alternately choosing games. He picked Washington State with his first pick (a gutsy pick, if you ask me, but he hates UT almost as much as I do), meaning I now found myself having to root for Texas.

And I STILL loved the outcome tonight!
(It helps that I'm up, 9-4.)

Yes, it does seem the Texas Longhorns always lose to the teams that have equal talent. This points to poor coaching. Did the Longhorns coaching staff not scout Washington State? Why did they seem so unprepared to handle the blitzing by Washington State last night? Someone told me that Mack Brown in 20 years of coaching has: Zero Conference Championships, Zero National Championships, is 3-9 against Top 10 teams, and 1-6 against Top 5 Teams. The problem is Mack Brown was signed to a contract extension through 2011! The Texas Longhorns will never win the big games with Mack Brown as coach.

You guys are harsh! Why I bet Washington St's superior athletes made the difference. I bet they take a lot of JUCO's (: Poor undermanned UT just doesn't have a chance. I still love Houston Nutt's line as best coaching statement of the season. For those who missed it earlier theis year- when asked if it was a big deal to beat UT he said "It's always big to beat Texas. They've won the National Recruiting Championship 10 years in a row".

"Got to"...great game! Although just like when SMU hosted Navy at Ford Stadium, I felt like I was at a Navy home game! Navy jets flyover before the game, Midshipmen marching in to cover the field in pre-game event, Navy public service announcements on the JumboTron during almost every timeout, quarter changes and halftime! And Navy was the 'visiting' team! I'm all for supporting the military, especially during times like we live in today, but it was just a little too much yesterday...and Tech fans didn't get ANY recognition before or during the game other than an announcer saying: "The City of Houston welcomes all of the Texas Tech fans to the ev1.net Houston Bowl!"...of course, Tech fans got their recognition AFTER the game with the presentation of the bowl trophy for the win and B.J. Symons getting the best offensive player and MVP award...but the announcer even messed that up by pronouncing his name: B.J. Symons (SIGH'-muns)...

How long has it been since the Texas Longhorns won a National Championship in football?

To have a team with so many OLs who are 6'6" and more than 300 (a lot more in some cases) and be unable to block is inexcusable. WSU has some nice players on defense, but they shouldn't have been able to blow past a line that looks like a row of Coke machines. That was embarrassing.

More importantly: I think Mack knows Vince Young is his quarterback for the foreseeable future, which begs the question: why was Chance Mock playing? My only guess is that he was trying to appease Mock into thinking he had a chance to play next year, so he'll stick around and not transfer. If Mack was using his bowl game to try to make sure he has a good backup next season, he should be fired. That is an embarrassing misunderstanding of his priorities and his job. Here's a man who has a chance at nearly every HS quarterback in America, and he sacrifices his bowl game and his national ranking, and the only reason I can figure is to keep his backup QB for 2004? If that was his reasoning, DeLoss Dodds should pull the trigger. Now.

Let's face cold facts now...

(1) Washington State is pretty good; had Kegel not missed the Washington game, they would have entered yesterday's game ranked 6 or 7, and finished this season ranked in the AP Top 5.

(2) Mack Brown has built an incredible talent pool at Texas, and had UNC in the top 10 when he left there. However, his gameday coaching has always been called into question. You can start the countdown for "fire Mack, hire Spurrier" (could you imagine... oh no)

(3) Texas needs to play Vince Young, and stick with him. Probably should consider bringing in a new QB coach as well, since the "can't miss, 5-star" QBs have underachieved in Austin.

RE: Probably should consider bringing in a new QB coach as well, since the "can't miss, 5-star" QBs have underachieved in Austin .

Hasn't Mack Brown already fired asst coaches in the past looking to pass the buck?

And before someone runs and screams "well didnt Bennet just fire some asst coaches"....well sure he did, but Bennett does not have the best recruits in the country, one of the biggest budgets in the country.....slightly different!

Pappy Slocum at A&M used to try deflecting the heat by doing that too.

In fact at www.FireMackBrown.com there is alreay a place to vote on which coordinators will be fired first.

Mack Brown may make a good AD.....they should hire Spurrier or Jimmy Johnson!
