Alex Rodriguez

Not that this has to do with football, but the Texas Rangers just signed Alex Rodriguez to a 10 year, $252 million dollar deal. This has to make the Rangers the favorite to win the AL West and compete wit the Yankees.

Wow, what a contract!

Don't get carried away. They haven't signed anything -- they've agreed in principle. And remember, they had an agreement last year with Todd Zeile. Not that A-Rod and Zeile are similar players, but this could be a case of his agent trying to drive up his price.

And they'll never compete with the Yanks when New York just signed a No. 3 or No. 4 pitcher (the great Mike Mussina) who is better than any pitcher the Rangers have ever had (and yes, that includes saint Nolan -- Moose doesn't throw as hard, but he's a far superior pitcher overall). I have the Yankees, always have and always will, but they'll still destroy the Rangers.

Most importantly, you're right - this has nothing to do with football or SMU. Enough.
