Very cool - thanks also.

Oh no. I am going to hear about the pass interference call again. It was just starting to die down a little.

I can't handle seeing it again. Lou Holst cost us the National Championship with his great coaching.

Especially for mrydel-"We got Screwed" (and apparently from the tittle-not in a good way)

Ok, I have been beat up for saying this before, but you have to stand up for what you believe.

We should not have kicked the field goal and gone for it.

It was a tough call but I think it was the correct decision. We had timeouts left. Arkansas had to go for broke to go to the Cotton Bowl so we knew they would put the ball in the air and clock would stop on incompletions. We got the ball back exactly as planned-moved the ball about 40 yards and almost won at at the bell. Long forgotten play-in the closing seconds SMU got the play they wanted for the win. They isolated Dickerson all by himself with a pass in the right flat. There was one Arkansas player out in the flat that could stop Dickerson from a long run down the sideline. I like my chances with Dickerson 1 on 1 with anybody-but the Arkansas DB made a great open field tackle. Bottom Line we remained undefeated and went to the Cotton Bowl.

No way BUS. (and it was not a FG it was whether or not to go for 2) Had we not made the 2 point conversion we may not have even gotten a bowl bid or at least a much lower one, (see Sun Bowl shortly thereafter) whereas a tie we were assured of the Cotton Bowl. Remember in those days there were very few bowls and they were dictated by schools that traveled well. We did not. AND, just as important, we kicked off to Arkansas, held them and got the ball back. We moved down the field and tried a FG at the end of the game from about 50 yards with a kicker that had the capacity to make it. It just went off to the side.

There are many who hold your belief, but I will never be convinced that we did not do the right thing under the circumstances at the time.

At that is my opinion for what it is worth. (Probably not worth as much as yours but surely it is worth something.)

It's also a lot of fun to watch Hog fans [deleted] and moan all over again- 28 years later.

I have to stop getting on the horse backwards.
Hindsight is 20 20.

I saw many 2 point conversions made in practice. Once even saw ED get his head stuffed down his chest.
Maybe that was remembered.
Could have sent Dupard over the top, or James.

Do you remember when we lost to Texas in Austin because we could not convert a 2 point conversion?

Listen, I would agree with you 100% if it had not been for the fact that 1 point meant Cotton Bowl and 0 points meant possibly no Bowl. Hindsight says we needed 2 for a undisputed National Championship. But we got the Cotton Bowl and as far as I and some ranking groups are concerned, we won the National Championship.

I just hope we have a chance for this type of decision to have to be made again in as meaningful of a situation.

I agreed with the call. If we don't go to the Cotton Bowl we might not get a bowl at all'. The fact is that as the only undefeated major football team in the nation, we got screwed by the Eastern sports writers who thought that Paterno deserved a National Championship even though they had lost by 20 points to a so so Alabama team.

We lost to TU by not making the 2 point conversion in Texas Stadium.
