Here's a document I have had for a while. I guess this is a good time to share it. I don't know if it is comprehensive. It is written by someone (I guess Ron Meyer when he got to Boston) to George Owens (one of the ninebanned boosters). This was his payroll to meet. The right column is partially cut-off but shows the number of months for payment.

This is stunning. Absolutely stunning. One name in particular surprises the hell out of me. And notice the lack of Craig James on the list.

frankly i would be shocked if he had players that weren't paid before 1985. and really, i have no moral qualms w/ paying players.

Posted this on the other thread with the list which is presumably from Meyer to George Owens: Dickerson's HOF Speech: People like George Owens, who treated me like a son when I was at SMU. Who when things were tough for me, he’d sit and talk to me. When I couldn’t get back to Texas, back to Sealy, Texas, he’d talk to me. And I really thank you George, for that. http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/membe ... tab=Speech

you're projecting what i said out over an awfully broad area. the NCAA is a hypocrisy, i encourage the active subversion of their policies. those players deliver and extremely valuable commodity, and this being the USA, they deserve to be paid for delivering that service.

I agree to an extent, I guess. They need to be paid for their services. And, no, tuition isn't enough.

It should be enough at the SMU tuition rate...assuming they want a good college education. If you want to pay them at the Pro rate, better get ready for MUCH higher ticket prices.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
