You guys are wacko...we are going to improve and be competitve without having to play 1-AA teams. Nothing will be sweeter than when we start waxing TCU every year again. KEEP THEM ON THE SCHEDULE. It's called a rivalry and I don't have enough time left on this planet to start over creating a rivalry like we have now with the purple toads. Who would it be anyway? Houston...nah, they don't even come close to matching TCU. Tulsa (love that little golden tornado running around the field)...nah. SMU/TCU...Dallas/Fort Worth...same deal. Proximity and bragging rights.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

TCU is the only school that stirs Mustang emotions. Serious SMU fans care if we beat the Horned Frogs' tennis and soccer teams.

The SMU-TCU rivalry cannot be replaced.

We are fortunate, lots of D-1A schools don't have a genuine rival.

It is going to feel great when the gridiron Mustangs start leaving hoofprints on TCU again, especially in a soldout Ford Stadium.

Keep TCU.

A rivalry cannot be maintained against a team not in your conference. It looses its spark. You have to be able to compete at sports on a yearly basis, fight for championships in the conference, etc. Maybe Tulane or Houston? Holding on to a Rivalry with TCU is the same as if we tried to form a rivalry with Baylor, or any other non-conference school. It just doesn't work. Sure, there is history, but history with an OOC team is not going to get current students jazzed up about a game. We have to give the kids currently at SMU a team they can get pumped up for. Tulane would be fun because they have had a decent team the last few years and it is a great place to travel to for away games.

First of all, it is exactly the history that develops the rivalry. The current students get into a rivalry because it already exists not because in the short four years they will be here they will get to go to New Orleans twice. We have been in the WAC for how long now? Which team in the WAC have we developed a genuine rivalry with???? Yeah, the Big Easy will be fun to visit...but that is not what makes for a rivalry. Texas/A&M rivalry doesn't exist because College Station is a fun place to visit...it's all about proximity and bragging rights...and HISTORY.

...and BTW, one of the better rivalries of all time is Texas/OU and that rivalry was in full swing long before they wound up in the same conference.

Guaranteed sellout. We could play them on the moon and 20,000 RVs would show up to drink some moonshine, torch a big hunk of meat and holler at the Silly Red Pigs.

A rivalry cannot be maintained against a team not in your conference. It looses its spark.

Here are some examples of heated non-conference rivalries:

Michigan State/Michigan - Notre Dame
Florida - Florida State
South Carolina - Clemson
Georgia - Georgia Tech
Miami, FL - Florida
USC - Notre Dame
Virginia Tech (joining ACC) - Virginia
Florida State - Miami, FL (joining ACC)
Army - Navy
Air Force Academy - Army/Navy

Conferences and even individual schools cannot design and mandate a passionate rivalry.

Genuine rivalries just happen over time.

SMU and TCU should maintain their football rivalry forever.

SMU and TCU have played each other for 80+ years. We have fought each other many times over the years for the SWC championship (particularly in the 40's and 50's). The only other school with whom we have that longevity is Rice. They never won a SWC championship. But in many other ways, they are the only other school remotely close to being a rival.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

NOT to the expense of recruiting...

we help them by playing them, because we give them an extra game in texas every other year.

we can close the door on their HS recruiting (or help to) by NOT playing them.

Who are you kidding...they already play 5 to 6 games in Texas anyway. They're called home games. It's not like some out of state school like Arkansas that needs a game or two in Texas or the DFW area to help their recruiting.

long live rivalries...and SMU/TCU is the only real rivalry we've got. I love it when we beat them in soccer! Is there anything else we've beaten them at recently??? After we pulled one out on the hardwood last year, they quickly dropped us from this year's schedule. I know it had to be tough deciding whether to play SMU or UTA.
