UT would be eaten alive by the SEC. By getting rid of Nebraska and replacing them with TCU and WVU, the Big 12 has been suitably weakened per their tastes.

I wish that we could play UT every year because that would elevate our program in the esteem of people in this part of the country and give us much more exposure. Of course it isn't going we will never play them again unless it is at their place and only if our program falls to the level of a New Mexico State e.g.

There really is little evidence that UT wants to be in a Conference other than one dominate in Texas and the Central Time Zone. Let's review:

Arkansas left SWC first

A&M began conversations to leave all Texas schools to join SEC in 1994

Texas saw reality of the naivete in Texas private school President's eyes Dumb(TCU), Dumber (Rice) and Dumbest (Kenneth Pye)-but they still organized a Texas based Central Time Zone Conference. You have to be blind not to see that move was a) justified and b) a great move

Nebraska leaves for Big 10

Texas convinces Big 12 to remain together

Missouri leaves for SEC

A&M leaves for SEC

Texas(indisputably) could name its conference and has turned down PAC, Big 10, SEC and ACC and was instrumental in keeping the Big 12 together-again. Why don't the deserters get the blame for breaking up the conferences-when UT always is the one trying to keep things together. How many times does it take to see that UT wants to remain a Texas based conference without interference from schools from other Conferences

What's even more laughable is all you CRYBABBIES complaining about big bad UT when HALF of you are TOO SCARED to play them in the Big 12 EVEN IF WE GOT A BID. You'd rather play Humpty Dumpty State in the Big East with a non-conference schedule of Creampuff U. So until you have the Balls to actually play schools like Texas stopping acting like they killed your grandma.

(Now proceed with ridiculous nonsensical hatred of UT)

Okay, but why did Arkansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, and Missouri choose to leave the Big XII? I don't see that kind of lack of confidence going on in any other perennial football conference.

Stallion wrote:Right exactly-they don't want any of those conferences and they didn't go proving that they want a Texas central based Conference and would only consider another Conference if they retained a Texas, central based Division. Nebraska, A&M, Missouri and Arkansas decided otherwise. But Texas could get a bid in 24 hours from any conference in the Country.

LOL, so now in Stallion World: Texas inquired and then purposefully got themselves rejected from conferences.

My understanding from someone in the UT administration is that the former UT President was smitten with the PAC 10 and badly wanted to make the move because he felt that the Big 12 was an academic wasteland Alas, although they lobbied heavily behind the scenes, UT was spurned because many in the PAC didn't want to travel so far East for their minor sports seasons.

Nonsense. Texas Tech was rejected. Oklahoma St was rejected. Texas didn't want to play in the PAC without a Southwest quandrant. You people really think that Notre Dame and Texas couldn't get a bid to every conference in America? Really? Wow!!!

All the reports suggest otherwise, Stallion.

Texas only wanted Texas A&M when they went to Big 8/12. They were forced to take Baylor and Texas Tech with them. They didn't want any part of a "quadrant" back then.

Do we want more gate revenue or a bigger endowment? B12 brings people to Ford but we'd never sniff a championship or BCS games. The BE aligns with where we draw students from and we have the potential to be perineal contenders. Unless the BE loses BCS status, or some sort of 4-team playoff takes shape, the Big East is a good place to be.

UT is like the high maintenance bleached blonde gorgeous model that is fun to fantasize about and hang out with for a while but when it comes right down to it, she is not the type you want to settle down with. There will always be those that try to hang, but in the end, come out of the relationship feeling empty and used. It is just the nature of the Beast.

I agree. The rebranding of SMU as a National University will be achieved as a BE member, if the students, alums and fans embrace it. Our collective degrees will be enhanced by this move and SMU brand will be even more appealing. In the Big XII, we are a Texas university with less to distinguish us to media, recruits and donors. We will bring national media to Dallas and Mustangs will bring SMU coast to coast.

What Stallion says is true in some respects, but is also blinded by the Texas centric, SWC old school thinking. SMU is a university that should want to set itself apart from most of the other schools in Texas. This is a chance for SMU to be a leader in Texas. And joining an athletic conference with quality universities from the east allows us to set ourselves apart. If marketed correctly, we will sell out our basketball games when the team gets competitive and we will bring SMU to the fore when we win the BE and go bCS every few
Seasons. We will be the toast of Dallas then, and respected throughout the nation. I don't want to be tied to UT.... State Schools are so.... Dirty :)

A number one goal of RGT and the Board of Trustees is to substantially elevate SMU's academic ranking and brand SMU as a University of national prominence and relevance. This can be done over time in the Big East. I do not see it happening in the Big whatever. Based on recent comments I have heard from SO, it is Big East all the way.

When the pitch to get SMU into a BCS conference started last fall, it was SMU2B12 not SMU2BEAST. That should tell you all you need to know. They changed it to SMU2BCS once BEAST was an option.
