U TexasSaw sports news tonight in Austin. UT will not tackle to ground during fall camp. This is to prevent injuries before season as explained by one of coaches. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Also, today their first practice in pads. FYI.
Re: U TexasOh noooooo! "Flag football" hits our beloved longhorns?
Re: U Texas
Really? I hate the horns as much as anybody but to say he is not a good coach is stupid.
Re: U Texas
He is regarded as a really good recruiter but not a good coach in case you had not heard. smh. Last edited by Rebel10 on Sat Aug 10, 2013 10:49 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: U Texas
In case you can't read he has won over 200 games as a coach and a national championship, turned around a Tulane program ,a UNC program and recharged UT. Again I hate the longhorns but can't let dumb statements go unnoticed.
Re: U Texas
Agree or not the commonly held opinion is that his success comes from recruiting and that his teams actually underperform relative to his talent stockpile. Last edited by couch 'em on Sun Aug 11, 2013 7:31 am, edited 1 time in total.

Re: U Texas
Anyone that's watched the past 3 seasons of mediocrity (by their standards) compared to their recruiting class rankings, especially the past two years when Oklahoma has stomped them at the Cotton Bowl. 2009 Recruiting class: 3rd 2010 Recruiting class: 2nd 2011 Recruiting class: 5th 2012 Recruiting class: 3rd
Re: U Texas
Wow. Mack won a national title in 2005. 2002-2004 recruiting rankings were 1,15,and 13. About 8 schools had better ranking on average those years. 02-09 recruiting rankings average around 11. 02-09 ap final ranking averages around 6. Y'all do the math. Are his coaching skills maybe declining? Sure. So did Tom landrys. Was brown not a good coach? Absolutely not. As for the jerk comment, how old are you?
Re: U Texas
Having really good QB's over the course of those years does a great job of making the head coach look really smart. Good on Mack for recruiting them, but the fact that he's recruited the last two Heisman Trophy winners as defensive backs tends to suggest he's losing it in all aspects of his head coaching position, not just on the field.
Re: U TexasIt's all relative. You can easily argue that no coach has done less with the kind of talent Mack has recruited the last 10+ years. Look at Saban as a comparison. Mack left at least one MNC on the table when he benched Applewhite for Simms.
Re: U TexasMack got lucky and had one great player that basically won the national championship, just like Auburn did. It had nothing to do with Mack just like it had nothing to do with Cheezenips. They were both in the right place at the right time. Mack might be a nice guy (or maybe not he does associates with that greedy creep Deloss - I don't care for Texas). Mack is no Saban, no where near, no where close. Roll Tide and Pony Up!
