Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsLatest rumor being leaked is that their projected starter QB (Brewer) will miss only the first game or maybe the first two games and coaches don't want to burn a redshirt on Webb who was battling for the starting position for only 1 game - allegedly. So they are looking at starting a True Freshman Walk on to play against SMU and SFA if Brewer is not better by then. His name is Baker Mayfield had offers to Rice, Wash State, and Florida Atlantic. I don't buy in to the theory that Kliff is trying to stump JJ on who his Starting QB will be. If Webb was the more talented QB over the walk on, you'd burn the redshirt and start him because if Brewer does have a back injury, chances are the backup qb is going to see more action. So maybe Webb is having issues and a true freshman walk on might be who we are facing?
While LB and Basketball consumed me for the summer, I can't wait for kickoff now! "Chris Level comments on Tech Talk right now: Davis Webb competing with freshman walk-on Baker Mayfield for starting job vs. SMU. No word on Brewer."
Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsThey might not WANT to burn Webbs redshirt but I can guarantee you they will if Brewer is hurt even 1 game. Its been reported its a chronic type ongoing injury so at that point you've got to go with the best backup. Plus playing in the Big 12 this is a pretty important game for them to reach bowl eligibility. They also maybe just trying to screw with our minds

Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsI doubt it is screwing with our coaching philosophy too much......but it sure does make their board fun to read during this melt down.
Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsthat would be an interesting development.
i think Kliff burns a redshirt (even if for only 1/2 games) - they need W's.
Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsSurprised they would not start or at least consider RSF Clayton Nicholas ... good QB out of Abilene Cooper.
Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsAnyone want to take some action on Brewer being out for the year and Webb starting?
Derail the Frogs!
Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsBaker looks pretty solid. 3-star recruit from Lake Travis. Scout said, "Mayfield is the type of quarterback who can sit back in the pocket and sling the ball all over the field..." He ran Kliff's offense at Lake Travis and Mike Leach offered him. His top choice was TCU but they never offered. Maybe Tech offered him a preferred redshirt or "grayshirt."
Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsSo now Tech could be down to a walk on QB. unreal.

Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsTCU was showing strong interest in Baker, but at the last minute they got a commitment from another qb so they ended up not offerering. Baker had an offer from Syracuse, but he waited too long for TCU so they withdrew it. He went to Lake Travis, just like GG and Brewer. During the first game of his junior year against Westlake, the starting qb, our very own Collin Lagasse, got hurt and Baker took the starting job and never looked back. He has legit D1 talent.

Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsHe turned down a full ride to a great university (Rice) to walk on a Tech??
Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who startsWord out here is Webb starts if Brewer can't play.
GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Latest Tech QB Rumor on who starts
