Can we make this board a bit more personal?

Postby smu'06 » Sat May 12, 2001 6:58 pm

I was wondering if we could make this board more like a sports bar conversation instead of an internet posting place, by introducing ourselves and giving ties to SMU.

Sure!
James
SMU Ties:
- Graduated from SMU in 1983 with a business degree. Have a son who goes to Highland Park (and says he wants to go to SMU - could be my influence?) Also have a daughter in elementary school, who hasn't made any announcements about where she wants to go to college, but she's always decked out in her SMU gear.
- Season ticket holder for football and basketball, attend numerous soccer games, usually go to about one swim meet a year and give every year to the Mustang Club.

My brother also went to SMU, he was a trainer for the football team.
I am a huge fan of SMU sports, and will be until I die.
I want a bowl game for Christmas.

Last of my family to graduate from SMU. Parents in 46' and 50' then, two brothers and a sister in 70's. I got out in 83'. M-Club Member for years. Football and B-ball season ticket holder and a few Tennis matches and W-Bball.

Looking forward to things getting better.

O.K., why not? I grew up in Dallas and was a neighbor of Tom Landry's and Hayden Fry's. Was a hard core Cowboys fan, but only followed SMU hoops as a kid. Went to school with Kitty Landry and Randy & Zach Fry. Moved to Schenectady, NY to finish H.S., but returned to SMU and was one of 3 brothers to graduate a Mustang (I graduated in 1974). Lived in Dallas until 1987 and was a season ticket holder through the 80's. I'm now a long distance Pony level Mustang Club member who tries to get back to Big D once a year to attend a game. Thinking about the opener with TCU this year, but already have an invite to attend the UNC game in Chapel Hill the next week, so this might be a year I don't get "home". Hopelessly addicted to SMU sports. Lost a close friend last year (the Old Mustang) who introduced me to these boards (MM.com at the time).

I'm in a good mood tonite. Shot a one over round with one birdie and 2 bogies. Best I've played this year.

P.S. If I do make it, hope to meet some of you at the Bus!

Name: Michael Roy
Ties to SMU:
1. As a small child, I think I attended some PonyExpress-era games with my parents, but don't remember - probably just went for the cotton candy.
2. Although a short hour away, SMU never crossed my mind as a college choice, went west instead for the mountains, sandles and tanktop weather, and reservation casinos.
3. I'm a die hard SMU fan for the next two years, and probably just a casual fan after that, seeing as I won't have any immediate family playing.
4. Until maybe around 2019-2020 - little soon-to-be-born baby Benjamin may be the answer to the ailing kicking game - so my wife tells me! Too bad he won't be able to get cotton candy at Ford, or hot chocolate for that matter!

I am an alumni, Class of 1968, and former swimmer, who lives outside of Chicago. I get to two or three games a year and am a season ticket holder for Football and, of course, Swimming. Also, I am a member of Letterman's Association and Mustang Club. On a special note, my son enrolls at SMU as a Freshman this fall.

In addition to FB and BB, I especially love the non-revenue sports and want to help improve Club Lacrosse, since my son will play it at SMU. I also view student-athletes as real asset and tend to take the long term view of things, since I will be a SMU Mustang forever. Not into quick, expedient fixes.
