Chuck Faucette Named Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at SMU

DALLAS, TEXAS - Chuck Faucette, a three-year veteran of the National
Football League, has been named Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at SMU,
it was announced today by Director of Athletics Jim Copeland. Faucette
comes to SMU after serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach
at the University of Texas since 1999.

Faucette was a four-year starter at linebacker at the University of Maryland
from 1983-86, helping the Terrapins win three consecutive Atlantic Coast
Conference titles (1983-85). He served as team captain as a senior in 1986,
was a two-time All-ACC selection and was twice an honorable mention
All-American. He was drafted by the New York Giants in 1987 and played for
the San Diego Chargers from 1987-89.

Prior to playing football at Maryland, Faucette spent two years in the Toronto Blue Jays minor league system. He was drafted by the Blue Jays out of Willingboro (N.J.) High School in 1981.

After his professional football playing career, Faucette entered the coaching ranks. He was the head football coach at Crawford High School in San Diego in 1990 and 1991. From 1991-92, he was head strength and conditioning coach and linebackers coach for the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football League. He worked in high school coaching from 1995-99 before joining the staff at Texas.

First of all, any time you can hire a mighty Maryland Terrapin, you've done well. But Faucette also has been around some serious winning coaches. Played for Bobby Ross. Played in the NFL. Came to the Hilltop from UT, where he worked (and helped RECRUIT) under Mack Brown and worked under that big Mad Dog guy. Hopefully he can bring that winning attitude to SMU!
